Greetings my friends, today I want to tell you about a series that I have recently seen. It is short as it consists of only 7 chapters and that was something that I really liked, I'm talking about “Sweetpea”, a horror and black comedy series, based on a weird girl as she says with problems to socialize and apparently is ignored by society.
The actress Ella Purnell who plays the role is known for some well-recognized installments such as the series Yellowjackets and the post-apocalyptic series Fallout. This girl suffered from bullying or intimidation during her stay in high school, a group of girls made her life impossible. This series was recently released in the year 2024 and is directed by Ella Jones.
Well, for lovers of this type of deliveries I am sure you will enjoy it, as it is a series a little violent and at the same time with some comedy. We can see that Rhiannon Lewis this girl works in a publishing house as a receptionist and is not very happy to say with her job, so it is almost all common as it can be quite normal that sometimes we feel dissatisfied with our work. On the other hand, this girl suffers a lot of discrimination, it is noticeable that she is not taken into account in society for many things, but added to the fact that she is very insecure, she does not take much initiative and that also helps to not be seen by anyone.
Rhiannon is the youngest daughter and lives with her father who is very ill and passes away, her father gives her a family knife which she treasures a lot. The wake her older sister who lives in France arrives to prepare everything and to give her dad his last to God. It was a very sad and regrettable ceremony, for Rhiannon her father was everything and it was hard to have lost him. In this journey we can see that she has a pet dog and unfortunately she dies because she was distracted at a bus stop when she crossed the street and got run over.
This girl is hitting rock bottom and is losing the most important thing in her life. She is very affected since her sister decided to sell her father's house and business immediately, which has affected Rhiannon very much since that place represents her childhood and the only thing she has left. I don't know what the laws are like in the UK, but I understand that when only one person sells an inheritance this cannot be done, I guess it is different there.
The case is that this girl disturbed by the pain and anger one day she starts to drink and goes for a walk and under a bridge was a very drunk man who disrespected her and she defended herself by giving him multiple wounds with her father's knife, she unloaded all her hatred and anger against this guy, she lost count of how many stab wounds he gave her, he died from the wounds and she threw him into a well.
She is shocked by what happened, but something unexpected happens as she has been feeling very happy or rozagante for having killed this man, in fact, part of the plot of the series implies that even having killed brought her luck or is now more seen by people from her work and a guy she likes for a long time. From here on she starts many strange things in her life, she commits more crimes, the police get involved and she thinks she can get away with it. The truth is that this girl is a psychopath.
Sweetpea | Official Trailer
The series is entertaining, offers a story where it may be possible because the murderers are always the people you least believe, the most harmless. And that perhaps many of these hide a dark secret full of mistreatment and insecurities that although they do not justify the fact of murdering. This girl excused herself by saying that she killed people who had hurt others.
It is a series that is not very congruent in many things since she was a very small girl and the victims average men, I understand that the first was drunk but the other could defend himself. It is watchable, it offers some comedy and that sparks more interest and one can stay.
It is not a series for children, it is violent with adult content, so be careful with it. It has good actors, with interesting performances perhaps too accommodating for the plot, but well it's acceptable. I would give it a score of 6/10. I felt that the ending was unfinished and lacked more denouement for that part, but I saw that they renewed a second season, so I hope this girl doesn't get away with it. I invite you to watch it and give your opinion. Thanks for reading, see you in the next one. Cheers.
