ASEAN Hive Challenge #106 "Street Food Safari" 🍡🧋🥗🍖 | Extraordinary Street Food At The King City Of The Southern Philippines

in #hive-1413595 months ago

Street food are ready-to-eat meals and beverages prepared and/or sold by vendors or hawkers and are usually available on streets and other such venues. It is often more affordable than sit-down restaurants, which makes it a great option for anyone who is constantly on the go and has a limited budget. On a daily basis, millions of low- and middle-income those living in cities rely heavily on them for their food needs.

Street Food Safari

Nothing beats enjoying street-food and grilled dishes at the open-air stalls at Roxas Boulevard in Davao City. It opens everyday at five in the afternoon until midnight.

Let me share with you an array of extraordinary street food dishes and beverages that you can find in my place especially at night. There's a big changes on the Roxas Night Market and it's good to be back here again. This place is a favorite hangout of my friends and I whenever I visit my hometown - Davao City. We really enjoy hanging out here with all of these exquisite street food around. Yum, yum, yum...

Tuna Panga(Grilled Tuna Jaw)

  • Marinating the fish is required for it to taste good. Soy sauce, garlic, pepper, and chili were combined. It was prepared over a charcoal barbecue. It imparts a pleasant smokey flavor to the fish. While grilling, the tuna was basted with sweet soy sauce. The "Bawug" portion of the jaw, where layers of gelatinous fat melts and oozes into the layers of flesh after grilling. While grilling this, you became more famished because of the marinated aromatic flavor.🤩

Grilled Tuna Belly

  • One of the most popular dishes because of its fresh seafood and delicious Filipino street food is Grilled Tuna Belly, which employs just a few seasonings but manages to be exceptionally tasty. This is my favorite the meat is extremely tender throughout, so a grilled tuna belly meal could end up immensely satisfying. I love every bit of it...whew!😍

Grilled Stuffed Squid

  • An aftertaste that is slightly sour and burned is left by the elegant blend of flavors. Though grilled squid tastes great on its own, adding chopped tomatoes, onions, and chili peppers on the top makes it even better. I like this Grilled Stuffed Squid but I am restricted to eat due to my skin allergies...GRRR!🥴

Kinilaw(Raw Tuna Fish Ceviche) and Sinuglaw

Marinated Foods (Milk Fish, Pork Chop, Tilapia, Matambaka Fish)

  • Kinilaw (raw fish ceviche) is a must-try street food. The dish consists of tuna fish blended with pepper, ginger, tomatoes, and cucumber, seasoned with salt and vinegar. You can also add milk to make it more palatable. It all depends on you. My allergies prevent me from eating this. I recommend this mouth-watering dish and I am sure you will love it.😋

  • Sinuglaw: A combination of sinugba (grilled) and kinilaw (ceviche), this dish often consists of a barbecued pork belly with fish ceviche. The pork belly is tender and slightly saltier than normal. The cucumber adds a pleasant freshness and crunch to the dish. When I eat this, I put the ceviche or fish kinilaw aside. The same rationale applies to my seafood sensitivity.🥹

Isaw or Skewer

  • Isaw or Skewer is a dish made from grilled pork or chicken intestines. The intestines are roasted over sizzling charcoal after being thoroughly cleaned and boiled. It has outdone itself and become the trademark of all such barbecues including animal meat organs. I am not used to eating this but it smells good!😊

Refreshments

  • To top off the meal, refreshments such as Buko Juice, Gulaman in Ube, Halo-halo, and Buko Pandan tastes are available. Sometimes vendors of the aforementioned foods sell these drinks as an addition to the meal. You can get a serving for five or ten pesos, but not without a refill. If you like a more textured sipping experience, choose the fruit or flavored shakes that use sago (tapioca pearls) and gulaman (gelatin) which are typically flavored with syrup made from a variety of fruit extracts. My favorite is the fresh buco juice together with the coconut meat.🥰 The sellers used fresh fruits because our area is endowed with a wide selection of fruits from all across Mindanao.

Dragon Ball/Lumpiang Shanghai/Chicken Wanton/Chicken Bread Rolls

  • Dragon ball is made of mixed ground seafood or ground chicken such as squid and prawns, wrapped in shredded lumpia wrapper and shaped into a ball. It is ideal for gourmet experiences and is more sumptuous when dipped in chili sauce. I ate this while we were strolling around the vicinity.😋😍

  • Buchi are balls of sticky rice that are deep-fried, filled with mung bean paste, and then sprinkled with sesame seeds. But there are a variety of fillings available in Davao City, especially at Roxas Night Market: cheese, durian, matcha, strawberry, and ube (purple yam), in addition to the somewhat ubiquitous flavor of activated charcoal. Be careful that it won't stick to your palate. My favorite among the flavors is the strawberry buchi..yum!🤩😋

  • Lumpia Shanghai or Filipino Spring Roll is an excellent appetizer and finger food. These incredibly crispy rolls are stuffed with pork or chicken, carrots, celery, and onions and served with a sweet yet spicy dipping sauce that will have everyone sopping up every last bite! Pair this Shanghai Rolls with your favorite refreshment. Hmmm..so good!😍

  • Chicken wontons are filled with ground chicken and shrimp, then deep-fried until golden brown. Every bite is bursting with flavor. They can be eaten with a sweet-and-sour dipping sauce or by itself. You can eat this alone or with rice. Best paired with Pusô because you can eat both while standing.🥰

  • Chicken bread rolls are a delightful and popular appetizer or snack. These tasty rolls are created with thinly folded bread slices stuffed with shredded chicken, cheese, and seasoning. The rolls are deep-fried till golden brown and crispy, then served with a tasty dipping sauce. The rolls are firm and crispy and delicious indeed!🤩

Pusô or Hanging Rice

  • Cooking rice in a palm leaf pouch results in the creation of a Filipino rice cake called pusô or tamu, also referred to as "hanging rice". It usually takes on octahedral, diamond, or rectangular shapes, but it can also take on intricately woven forms that are densely woven. It is known by a variety of names throughout the Philippines, although it is most frequently associated with the street food customs of the Visayan or Mindanao communities.

Binalot

  • Binalot is a Filipino technique for wrapping and serving food that involves utilizing banana leaves and similar materials. The word comes from the root word balot, which means "wrap"/"wrapped". The aromatic and somewhat sweet flavor of these fresh green leaves complements the final dish. Not only do banana leaves have culinary properties, but they also have another quality that distinguishes them. The plant contains naturally occurring antioxidants, which are also found in green tea; although the leaves are not edible, boiling releases the antioxidants into the food. Just like pusô, binalot is also associated with street food. I enjoyed eating Grilled Tuna Panga paired with Rice Binalot. Hmm..I like the aroma. I can eat with gusto.🥰

Activated Charcoal Ice Cream

  • Have you tried activated charcoal ice cream? Mang Danny's serves activated charcoal ice cream. However, the taste is average. Vegan alternatives include pistachio and taro. Fortunately, I was able to enjoy his ice cream after waiting in a very lengthy line. Lining up for Mang Danny's ice cream is a risk. You could wait for hours and still not get a scoop. I guess you're truly paying for the health benefits. It could assist with all of the food you consume at the night market.💞

Balut

  • Let us now end with the ultimate dessert. It's not actually a dessert. It is Balut, a fertilized duck egg with an embryo within. Foreigners think it an exotic delicacy, yet in the Philippines, it is a popular street food offered at night. Traditionally, it is served with salt and vinegar

My stomach is full and so are my eyes .whew! Burp!

Offering individuals the chance to experience new and interesting flavors. Street food may also be a terrific way to learn about a new place's culture and cuisine, as many sellers provide foods that are unique to the place.

N.B.

The food is absolutely safe to consume because the Davao City Government requires all vendors to pass the Food Safety and Sanitation Seminar. To ensure your delight, eat at the food stand that displays their seminar participation certificate. Bon Appétit!

***If you're the sort who only eats at exquisite

Sort:

So many choices because of so many different culinary influences there. It's so hot lately that I can't even imagine searching for a bite to eat on the streets in the daytime.

For the best street food experience, @justinparke, go out at night or late afternoon. 😊

Yes, the burning heat of the sun makes me dizzy. I can't move easily, and I'm sweating profusely! Whoa! 🤩🥴

Been wondering if there is a barbecued crocodile in Davao or if it was in Cebu? Hehe. Even if I love streetfoods, I can’t dare to eat an alligator who also eat our flesh. Haha anyway, all of these foods you pictured are my favorites . I love the rice in a puso. Eating puso paired with chicken barbecues is heaven! I also love the Balut. I wanna go out right now to eat balut.

We have durian ice cream with Crocs flavor. 😂 kidding aside, yes we have Durian Ice Cream with Crocs egg, that is!.. Yes you can both eat Pusô and BBQ while standing waiting for a jeepney to come by. 🤩

So yummy.

Thank you so much.💞

Wow, yummy street foods i missed those days when Im still working we use to eat street food at night before going home.

Same here, @aileen1984. Eating street food after office hours before going home is what I missed, too. Those were the days.😊

Thank you so much for introducing me to these wonderful dishes. Although state food is very tasty. But in our favorite restaurants where quality and good food is prepared. We can happily eat the food there once a week. Because oily food outside is always very harmful for humans.

Grilled foods aren't oily. In fact, my doctor recommended that what I am allowed to eat are boiled, steamed, and grilled dishes due to my acid reflux. The dishes I introduced were healthy because they were fresh when marinated to add flavor to the food. Our City highly recommends the vendors observe cleanliness and they are monitored by the City Government Officials from time to time to ensure the health of the consumers.

Missed ko na yang mga palamig Sis. Eversince I am concious of my low carb diet. I just close my eyes with palamig. It is a no no to us because of the sugar content.

The palamig is not so sweet at binabantayin din ng Regional Health Department dahil SA tumataas ng rate NG Diabetes. What you could do is drink water instead of shakes and juices.

Looking at the photos made me crave the tusok tusok 😂

Hi @luvinlyf. Can you smell the aroma? 😍 which tusok2x ate? The batikulon, atay o isaw? 🥰

Wow! What a feast! I don't even know which one to try first, I guess the tuna belly would be my pick too. These delicious array of food has me salivating now. Thus entry's for the win, pinakysw mo na lahat ate.... Hahaha.... Mamili ka nalang dyan!
I would love to come here and dine as well. Hope soon we could visit Davao.

You got the right pick! It's my favorite. Fine Diners has Grilled Tuna Belly as well, but of course, it differs in the representation and the price because you are paying for the ambiance of the place. 😍 Whereas in stalls what you get is the aromatic "USOK" of the delicious dishes. See that Dragon Ball tusok2x? That's so palatable especially when dipped in a sweet and spicy sauce! I can consume 10 pcs of those. Oh my, it's heaven!

When in Davao you will never be hungry because of the bounties of fresh foods and delicacies around you. And I am telling you, it's cheap! Davao is fortunate with seafood, fruits, vegetables, poultry, and swine products.

Tara na sa Davao! Lami mupuyo didto. And, hey! Davao City is second to have the cleanest potable water in the world according to studies.DYOR! 🤩🌷💞

Hay Grabe naman yan, I saw you're post not in the right time, hehe. I was about to sleep, this made me hungry. Isaw and Balut all the way is my favorite.

Now, you are craving for those mouthwatering street food. Get up and wait for the Balut to come by...hahaha... Sorry I disturb your restful night, Bro @suteru.

You got most of our street foods. I like the grilled panga. I can smell it through your photos, haha.. its still early in the morning to crave that. Great job on your Roxas adventure, thank you for sharing.

Hahaha...well, when you're in Davao you miss half of your intestine if you do not visit Roxas Night Market. There are lots of dishes to choose from. They are well marinated. All you have to do is tell the seller what you like and let him grill it.

You can also find your true love there according to my friends...hahaha...guy hunting!🤩

I am pleased to be here at @asean.hive community. Thank you so much.💞🌷

I lived in the Queen City of South, Cebu, and I was curious about the King. It was Davao City. Nice meeting you King. Hehehe @diosarich

Hi, kabayan! Nice to meet you as well. My mother's lineage comes from Cebu. I visited Cebu and Bohol when my grandparents were still living. 🤩 By the way, I love galletas and masarial ni Didang 😊

Hello too kabayan. Galletas truly is delicious. I don't know if I tried the food from Didang. I will do research about that. Thank you for the information. @diosarich

You are welcome, dear @fixyetbroken. Masarial is a ground peanut mixed with sugar and milk. Ask around.🥰

Maybe I already eaten Masarial, I just don't know the name. 😅😅 Thank you. @diosarich

I am sure. You are not just aware of the name of that delicious delicacy from Cebu. It's also my Mom's favorite. Have a nice day, girl! 🌷

Sure it is. Have a nice day too. 😊😊 @diosarich
