Less Cheer for Marijuana Reform

in #politics2 years ago

Biden recently made headlines when announcing that he was going to pardon some cannabis 'criminals', though the change wasn't going to impact all individuals who are currently behind bars for cannabis-related offenses.

We have heard this sort of promise made before, and others who have heard of pardon promises in certain regions of the US might still be waiting to see that fully realized.

Even though a political figure promises a pardon it doesn't mean that liberty will be granted to those cannabis 'criminals' in a short amount of time.

Various polls have supported the notion that the majority of Americans are ready for this change of allowing more marijuana freedom. Let's stop filling up prisons with peaceful individuals, is that the best way to spend resources?

Even in states that have no legal recreational market yet, there is popularity for the idea of decriminalization or legalization.

How much longer is it going to take? Should these individuals have been victimized over a plant in the first place?

There are hundreds of thousands of individuals who have been caught up in the war on drugs over the last few decades. Slowly things are changing but still there are a lot of arrests taking place for victimless crimes.

In 2021 it is estimated that some 170k+ marijuana-related arrests took place.

Is Marijuana still a priority?

Even those who have had small amounts of marijuana have been arrested.

When an individual is arrested for a plant like cannabis and a victimless crime like possession it is something that can change their life forever and bring about a variety of negative circumstances. It can be more difficult to get a job, to find a decent place to live, to move to a new country etc.

Do you think communities would be happy to see police resources being spent mostly on cannabis users more than other violent offenders? Or maybe if the public knew how much attention and resources were being wasted on that activity they might vote for other things to be moved up the attention list.

Would you be shocked to find out that some years have seen more people arrested for cannabis than all other violent crimes combined?

Human trafficking has been regarded as one of the world's fastest growing criminal enterprises, why isn't this a higher priority than cannabis? If it is a higher priority it arguably doesn't look like it when you see this sort of data.

Is Biden just pandering to the pro-cannabis voters? (Which represents millions of voters around the country) Critics have said the promise of that pardon isn't enough as it doesn't extend to all peaceful cannabis 'criminals' and it's arguably a little too late after previous promises of cannabis reform that have been made. What's taking so long?

The pardon won't pardon anyone at all. The White House said this, there will be exactly Zero People released because of this.

Biden and Harris are personally responsible for many of the innocent marijuana users languishing in prisons today. Biden through his promotion of tough on drug user laws - which apparently don't apply to his son Hunter, who seems quite fond of crack, and Harris as a Prosecutor in CA where she got many people convicted of using marijuana.

Shocking none of their victims are being released with this fake news of pardons.

I heard that bidet/kakala was pretending to be cool and hip with their staffers and was asking them if they ever smoked weed, those that thought it was a genuine interest were fired soon after. I think the PTB fear weed more than anything.

Worse, fentanyl OD is one of the leading causes of death in America today, and driven by the open borders policy of the Biden administration that allows cartels to just walk in with illicitly manufactured Chinese fentanyl.

Recently marijuana laced with fentanyl resulted in 6 OD's and one death, and the scumbag that laced his weed was convicted. That's a rare event. Not the OD's which are common. The conviction.

Thanks!
