In our everyday life change is constant and so is adaptation. Learning new things is part of our daily routine. I’m Doreen from Nigeria. I spend most of my time working or pondering about things that may or may not be tasking for others, most of which are regular activities people carry out on a daily basis. I’m a good listener, most times I try to get lots of information on a particular person before approaching them, it helps to stay in a safe zone when communicating.
Singing is one of my hobbies, I also crochet and sketch which may occur on a not so regular basis. I like to game when I am free to do so, Call of duty (COD) to be specific. Most of the things I do are often affected by time, weather or my environment.
My journey into the world of crochet began as a childhood fascination, blossoming into a lifelong love for the craft. I often wondered how people turned mere balls of yarn into full outfits, tops, bags, shoes, skirts, shorts and even trousers. Learning new patterns, easy or hard is a whole adventure. It is not one that I can describe as easy but it has been fun for the past year.
A month after learning how to crochet I did an online class that turned out pretty well, added crochet wears to my catalogue, did a few classes after that while using crochet as the main focus.I had many people interested in getting outfits from me and it was so exciting to get new orders. Some picked my designs and others wanted custom made wears. I’ve had different types of clients, some easy to work with, some are rather demanding and impatient, some were excited to have me make their outfit. It gave me so much joy to have different people trust me enough to constantly work with me. The fun part is learning how to work with different types of people on a daily basis.
I scribble down articles that captivate audiences across various platforms. Oh, I didn't mention this part, I'm also a social media manager/strategist, basically what I do is make content, source for ideas, create marketing strategies, make posts, create content calendars, study and create better and more productive engagement strategies, manage social media account for different people like brands, individuals and companies too each with different target audience. The list goes on and on.
Beyond hashtags and threads, I connect with fellow fiber artists and social media managers by sharing tips, patterns, and how I solve the issues I face in my fields. I try to get many skills on a daily basis because of the nature of my job. Communication is one of my outstanding skills, getting to know people, studying what works for them, what keeps them comfortable, what causes them discomfort, how they like to be addressed, how they communicate with different people, how they react in different situations and their attitude towards different people. Trying to get and remember these details about a large number of people is rather hectic but fun . Sometimes, I feel like a secret agent. Learning diverse things helps to catch on quickly especially in conversations about topics I don't hear often.
I found out about this platform from a friend @wongi. Had issues with power at my place so I went over to hers to get my devices charged. It was not so far from my own residence so it was a quick journey. We were having random conversations about life, our jobs, the country and general topics. After a while we ended up talking about this platform. She told me how long she has been on it and how her journey had been so far. She also mentioned about the number of amazing people she met on Hive, stating how easy it was to reach people with the right content and the perfect degree of engagement. She gave me word by word details of everything I needed to know. It was as if she was transferring all her knowledge to me at that point in time. I asked her questions about a few things I did not understand and she explained in clearer terms to me. I'd love to thank @wongi for giving me the opportunity to share my craft, my journey and my art with everyone here.
I am willing to learn from everyone here and I'm certain this journey that I'm about to begin will be a memorable one.
