On days when I'm not shooting videos, creating content or making music, I'm working the 9-5 hustle, which for me revolves around medicine, radiology and field work or research.
I'm currently a radiology trainee in Nigeria. Residents at my centre visit a rural location far away from the city as part of our rural postings, just provide medical imaging services in very resource poor settings.
We call this place 'Eniosa' located in Ibadan. It's over an hour's journey from the city centre.
Despite being in the same city, I honestly don't enjoying going here because of the roads. The roads are so bad, that it feels like you're dancing in the car for a good chunk of the journey.
Fortunately, this time around it seems the state government have started working on the road.
Unfortunately, the feeder minor roads that lead to this centre might not be fixed. But it's fine - we're used to it.
The minor roads still need work
Eniosa has a local government health centre at its extreme end and in fact it's located at a close. It's named after the late Chief Nathaniel O. Idowu, a renowned philanthropist in Ibadan.
It's a lot of land dedicated as a health centre, howbeit severely underfunded.
The compound is so spacious
They have a few buildings and bungalows with wards and beds, and barely functioning labs, pharmacy etc.
The waiting area and then the ward/clinic in the far distance
They even have an ambulance, which I presume works.
They are however very understaffed. The doctors and nurses run irregular shifts. The doctor comes once in a while indigent auxiliary nurses run most of the other things.
Well, we just come to do ultrasound scans for their pregnant women 2ce every month, and this month, it was my turn.
We didn't do too many patients and were able to leave on time before the roads get busy and unbearably dusty- that was a relief.
The building housing the ultrasound room. The whole hospital is pretty much 'solarised', as electricity supply to this kind of place is very epileptic
Our ultrasound machine in its bag, and our workstation
For the remaining part of the day, I did more of resting and recovering from my motion sickness super triggered by the fantastic roads!
And that was how that day went.
What do you think?
