But what's annoying is when people rely on it without even double checking the whole content word per word and think if the flagged parts of the content is really made AI or not....they only see the result...

yes, and i think with more and more people that are KNOWN for their human posts - to be getting scores that I'm reporting publicly and challenging....

if MORE people speak up and say - AI DOES NOT DEFINE MY HUMANNESS... and then just LEAVE the places that dare to actually PIN you to those labels.... then and only then - will it change.

based on what??? the sentences they chose were so ridiculous. there was NO evidence of ai - its just an arbitrary decision BY an ai machine!!! of course there is no proof - because THERE IS NO PROOF. i wrote it myself! THAT is the fact!

do we need to video record ourselves actually typing it out over 3 hours so we have THAT as proof? lol

and it made me think - if it can just arbitrarily choose random sentences to say hmmm THIS doesn't sound human.

then what is to say that in a few months - my SAME style isn't giving a 68% human reading??

after all - just a few months ago, it was 100%!!!

The classification tools are marginal, at best.

As a university educator, I am transitioning away from written essays as an assessment method. It’s simply too easy for the AI tools to mask what the students truly know and comprehend.

As I’ve stated on chain previously, the ability to distinguish between human and AI-generated content on Hive is going to become progressively harder and harder.

I don’t know the answer long term. Short term, I favor upvoting thoughtful engagement whenever possible, like I’m trying to do here. .

I only use grammar checker only but all the time I don't fee it's right. It shows me some corrections but I don't do it because I feel how I have written is the best way.

I don't either...we did in the beginning because we were curious...and it lost interest fast because well, it was saying we were 100% human and we were!

this last instance was a joke from someone..that became very un-funny fast when I saw that it was telling me I was 88% probability of being human!!! lol

It's actually pretty scary that this is the score that I'm getting as a native speaker who is an actual writer that's not using any online editing aids or suggestions!!

Most of those AI checkers are worse than useless. I did tested on few recently - I typed in one page from my old diary. Took me a while because that was paper one.

I've used 4 different AI checkers, and not single one would gave me my claimed 100%.

In only one case I scored 93%, but rest was anywhere between 82 - 90%. So maybe I should just accept I am not human in full 🤣

Snook tagged me so after re-reading this many times it finally dawned on me what you were talking about. Maybe that's just my poor reading comprehension.

According to https://www.zerogpt.com/ the following lines got pegged as AI:

- The next morning, he had shown up at her house bright and early. He needed all the time he could get. 
- Just rest, and it will be here before you know it."
- "I was thinking, maybe we could meet at the stables at daybreak?
- He didn't imagine that he'd sleep much as his mind was racing with dilemmas. She seemed to enjoy him, but she didn't know him. If she didn't know him, how would she love him?

And some other lines which likely appear in a whole bunch of stories which ChatGPT has stolen to 'learn' from.

Another AI detector at https://contentatscale.ai/ai-content-detector/ found entirely different lines for the most part:

- He needed all the time he could get.
- He held out his arm, hoping that she wouldn't hesitate.
- Just rest, and it will be here before you know it."
- It was so contagious that he found himself wheezing with laughter too, but he had no idea why.

Anyways, my verdict is AI content detectors are bullshit. Like those 'original content' detectors that told everyone their plagiarism was original. AI content is blatantly obvious without any detector. Its so obvious it would be a stretch to say it's not AI. In those cases the detectors serve a purpose of identifying which generator possibly created it or just supporting what people already know, that it's AI.

and the only way to get higher - is to write... as the AI is telling me to!!!!

Remember in UU where you made us write using some quotes while still being within the platform rules (because you had the guardians check every last one 🤣)? Those plagiarism checkers kept insisting that my original writing was copied 😂 ! It took twice as much time to get it to comply with all major checkers than it did to write it. Nothing automated is perfect...

Here's what I think. The AI systems are trained to think that humans write really weird messy sentences. Anything too simple, straightforward or perfect is going to seem robotic. In fact, I think your rant and its score are a testament to this. When you get really animated of course don't come across as AI.

Here's the thing about this sentence....

"He needed all the time he could get."

... it's a little like "It was a dark and stormy night." We've heard it before. It's not an original sentence. This is not to cast aspersions on your writing. Not at all. But maybe when we write sentences like that, we need a little wake-up call??

Here's my take-away. I'm going to check my writing with AI checkers... and whenever I get flagged sentences I'm going to take it as a sign that I need to shake things up and write it in a more creative and original way. Give it more life. Because the last thing I want to do is come off as a robot! 😅

Maybe it's like the result we usually get through plagiarism checkers. Before I started screening, I always write and publish without any thought of running my stuff on plagiarism checker. I still write and publish without checking 😂. I know all the lines, sentences and grammatical arrangement are mine. However, whenever I casually run them of plagiarism checker, even a 98% uniqueness still gets me worked up. Hehe. What about the other 2% ?

What's really weird about these errors is that people will act upon the result 'just because' it was given by a bot. However, we need to start realizing that these things are not perfect detectors.

I don't care about approval from communities. but the MAIN point of my post is... if I CAN GET an 88% and i know myself to be 100%... then WHAT is the % of people who DO need to get help on Grammarly - or DO have English as a second language?

and yes - I DO have other posts that are back up in the 90s - lots of them too.

If there are people relying fully on these checkers - they really need to check some of their favorite writers first. LOL and see what scores are very common to HUMANS.
