Hello beautiful women who are part of HIVE🌷.
It is my pleasure to participate in the Ladies of Hive contest #122, giving my opinion and answering questions on this controversial topic.

💄 Why do you think society places such a high value on beauty when it serves no functional purpose?

I think that today the desire to obtain a "beauty" imposed by the society in which we live where filters, and image editors, are used has gone too far to the point that many people disassociate their true identity with the one they decided to show on their social networks.

I also believe this "beauty" that is imposed on us as a method of presentation, makes people another product for the visual enjoyment of the market, embedded in our minds through all the bombardment of stereotypes of beauty in the media like TV, social media, etc; which seems somewhat repulsive.

We, as part of said society, contribute to this problem, since we buy and accept the idea that in order to appreciate objects and people, they have to look a certain way, let's say beautiful, good looking, presentable, without even looking at their real value.

In my opinion, accepting these types of ideas, instilling them and disseminating them in our lives, more than giving us satisfaction, affects us in a terrible emotional and psychological way, especially those people who are developing their personality, tastes and identity.

However, it is important to mention that beauty or beautifying ourselves is not a bad thing, what is bad is using it to define the value of things and even worse, the value of people.

Each and every one of us has a unique beauty, and knowing that the only acceptance we should expect is that of our own eyes and understanding that our value as people goes beyond the acceptance and criteria of society.

Do not forget that you are valuable and that beauty is subjective😘.

Sort:

These filters, they just make you look altogether a different person and then you start believing it for real. Beauty comes with a lot of deception as well.

Unfortunately, social networks promote physical and stereotyped beauty too much, instead of promoting other types of beauty, such as being kind, a good person, intelligence, etc.

They want beauty because corporations make big money

Exactly, it's horrible how they have tried over the years to promote stereotypes that are impossible to fulfill, affecting many adolescents.😞

Hola, amiga @drydia

Bienvenida a Hive.

Me gustó mucho tu artículo.

This is my least favorite aspect of social media, congratulations for making this point so well, and congratulations for sharing

Thanks to you for supporting <3

Mucha Tienda, Poca Alma.

Cierto @garorant ?

Muchas gracias por tu opinion!

Si lo dijo Pepe, caso cerrado.

Well,I also love beauty and the pleasure in seeing beautiful creations 😂
This is a great write up dear

<3 beauty isn't a bad thing, what is bad is to use it to discriminate others.

True
Everyone is unique in his or her creation and we don't have that authority over ourselves

No one should be discriminated or treated unjustly just on the basis of how we look

Beauty also changes a lot in the eye of the person; I mean, I don't like most of the beauty standards, they will be lost on me and a lot of other people. The problem is tan a lot of people really want to fit in, which is in human nature, and people in marketing really know how to elevate the standards to more and more unachievable points, so they can keep pushing new products... even the "natural" look has become a trend, and it just serves the purpose of selling other products XD this is a never-ending cycle,

I'm Agree with you <3

Beauty in society isn't bad. It's when it's used to discriminate and harbor prejudice towards others that it's a bad thing, but not beauty itself. Well written and well thought out. !PIZZA

Interesante punto de vista!
Éxito en el concurso

Hello @drydia. You make some valid point on why society creating a standard of beauty. When you say tho ugh that:

"it is important to mention that beauty or beautifying ourselves is not a bad thing, what is bad is using it to define the value of things and even worse, the value of people."

This is exactly true that harms people. Telling us what we should view as beautiful is tragic and wrong on all level.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Take care.

Marketing and the media have turned beauty into a double-edged sword, putting in our minds the characteristics that the beauty of people is supposed to contain, when we all clearly know there are all kinds of beauty.

👍🙏😍

Thanks for this statement, I thing our view on beauty also makes lots of people go into bleaching and skin surgeries so as to look pleasing to the world. I believe we mustn't judge people by their look but to move close to them so as to know the kind of personality that they have.

You are absolutely right, today people see extreme aesthetic procedures as something normal even as goal, putting beauty above physical and mental health.

Hmmm that's true
