Church of the Holy Three Hierarchs, the church by which I recognize Timisoara

in #hive-1637722 days ago

In every small town, there is always one building, most often a religious building, for example a cathedral, for which the place is known.

Although Timisoara cannot be classified as a small town, as it is actually the fifth largest city in Romania (representing the cultural, agricultural and commercial center of western Romania), in addition to all the beautiful squares, churches and buildings with beautiful architecture, it has one church, which stands out for its beauty.

The Romanian Congregational Church of the Holy Three Hierarchs in Timisoara, Catedrala Mitropolitană "Sfinții Trei Ierarhi" was built relatively recently, just before the beginning of World War II, in the period from 1937 to 1940.

Although it is an Orthodox church, the style of construction does not give such an impression. It has certain details of the Byzantine style, but instead of a dominant dome, the church has a total of 11 towers.
The interior of the church is quite dark, which is not characteristic of Orthodox churches, but the iconostasis, icons, and chandeliers are beautiful, even in the dark.

The church is best seen from the central city promenade, and since it is positioned in the center of the city center, the towers can be seen from different sides of the city.
I managed to capture with my camera a shot with the famous sculpture of a wolf nursing Romulus and Remus, with a stream of water from the famous Fish Fountain.

Apart from the front, the church towers can be seen more beautifully from the side of the river Begej.

I've been to Timisoara several times on day trips, but I've never ventured beyond the central streets and squares.
This time, after visiting the church, we headed to the nearby Rose Park, but we were obviously late (missed the season), because only a few roses still had their flowers.

We promised ourselves that some other time we would visit Timişoara during the rose blooming season, precisely because of this park, as well as to find the flower clock, an attraction that we were looking for unsuccessfully.
From the Rose Park, we went along the Begej river bank.

A narrow canal with tourist boats, with weeping willow trees along the shore and bridges connecting the two sides of the river, with the church tower in the distance seemed like a fairy tale.

We took a break on the benches of the gallery above the river, before heading back to the center and the church, which is actually the central figure in Timisoara, but also in this post of mine.

Some other points of interest, streets, squares, buildings and the festival we came across, I will describe on another occasion, as I described yesterday here, as I described yesterday here as I freshened up on Saturday.

Thank you for stopping by my post and I hope you enjoyed the photos and the story I shared with you
