I don't remember now exactly where, in which post I left a comment in which I promised to write about this topic🤔
But I remember that I did 🙂
And today, after some discussion in the company, I decided that the time was right.
Since the beginning of my Hive journey, I have been a 100% "Mobile phone" type of User (OK, maybe not 100%, but 99% for sure 🙂 ).
But even outside Hive, except when I'm at work, almost all the time I spend online, I do it on my mobile phone.
I rarely turn on my laptop at home, whenever I have to do it, especially if it's an official laptop, I feel some anxiety.
When it comes to private laptops, I turn them on mainly to watch some content that hasn't appeared on the platforms yet, legal or not.
One Laptop for legal, the other for those who are not (and which can be quickly and easily reinstalled if it picks up a virus).
Today, in the company, we talked to fellow IT Security officers about the importance of installation
of the Microsoft tool Intune, which makes the mobile phone, with all the data, an "Impenetrable fortress for hacker attacks on the company's data", but also potentially compromises all the private data on the mobile phone.
It is somehow difficult for me to accept that my data, business or private, will be available to a junior IT administrator, who has just been employed in the company and who, due to the nature of the job, must have Admin rights over the Intune application that would be installed on the official phone that I use .
I stood up more for other colleagues, who also use their official devices for private purposes, than for myself, demanding at least a model of division into Work and Personal profiles, which will allow users a minimum of privacy.
And why didn't I stand up for myself with this act?
Because I always have a private device with a personal number.
I have never given up using another phone, no matter how much trouble it brought me with carrying, charging, storing...
I was asked a long time ago in the company: Why do I have two devices and two numbers, isn't it easier for me with just one?
Because I existed long before I started working in the company, with my private number and always my phone.
And it's not just a matter of private data on the business phone.
Having two devices and a private number has some other advantages.
First, if it happens that the signal on one device is bad, it might be better on another (with another operator).
If one of my devices happens to have a dead battery, the other usually has enough that I can get to where I'm going without being totally unavailable.
If I spend an internet package on one number, I connect to the Hotspot of another...
And the biggest benefit for me is that, when I go to sleep, I leave my work phone (which I have to keep available at all times according to the agreement with my employer) in the living room and take my personal phone with the alarm set to the bedroom.
In the event that due to some urgent situation they need me on the official mobile number, after persistent ringing, I will wake up and answer. I don't let my phone ring next to my bed.
And an even greater benefit for me is when I go on vacation.
Then I agree with the directors that they can call me on a private number for the most urgent situations.
Until I switch my official phone to Airplane mode and the whole time I'm on vacation, I'm unavailable for calls and messages.
I don't switch off completely, I take a look beforehand so that I don't miss something more important than emails, because it's better to check if there are any challenges in the early stages, than to fix them later when they become problems.
But for all those unimportant calls, I am absolutely unavailable.
It's OK with my colleagues, because they've already learned how I function.
They know that I am very responsible according to the contractual obligations and that, if they call me and I am not available, they immediately ask for help on the other side, because I will not contact them until I return from vacation.
Because they also know that when I'm not on vacation, I'll answer at any time of the day or night (at night after a little longer ringing, until I wake up).
How do you feel about the use of private and official mobile phones?
Do you only have one device or (if you work) do you have two, one for work and one for pleasure (for your free time)?
I also have a question for you.
According to the picture of my two phones, what do you think, which is private and which is business?
I'm putting up a poll, you're welcome to guess.
Whoever guesses gets a reward from me in the form of Ecency points.
It is not too difficult, if you read the post, you will easily guess which of these two phones I use for work and which for my needs and entertainment.
