A walk on a clear and sunny winter day is perhaps the most beautiful walk that I can arrange for myself these days.
It's not warm enough to sweat from the effort of climbing the steep steps I used to climb to this part of town, down from the riverside parking lot, to where I drove my car.
I walk along the cobbled street and take a photo of the bare branches that cast a strange shadow on the sidewalk..
Across the street from the Paris embassy, I turn towards the Palace of the Patriarchate of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The museum is closed and for that reason, I'm thinking about which way to go.
I'm looking across the street.
At the end of the pedestrian crossing, there are steps to enter the Cathedral Church of St. Archangel Michael, which is popularly known as the Saborna Church in Belgrade.
On this occasion, I will not take pictures of the interior of the church, the liturgy was in progress, so as not to disturb the prayers of the believers, I stayed for a while and lit candles in prayers for health.
Two trees to the left and right of the entrance to the church caught my attention from the sidewalk across the street, when I was standing next to the door of Partriarsia.
I approach the trees and notice their beauty on the boards with information about which species they are.
Two Yew trees, which live in nature from 2000 to 4000 years, in the church yard are only a little more than 115 years old, which means that this is an evergreen shrub or a low tree (which can grow to a height of 20 meters), planted for the purpose of breeding the yard of the church for the entire 60 years after the completion of the construction of the church, in 1845.
The beautiful bristles of the tree contain the poisonous alkaloid taskin and I believe that is why it looks so beautiful, it is absolutely certain that everyone will avoid them.
The bark of the tree, of various shades of brown, covers the trunk, which has started to split, probably because it is a tree from the cypress family. I found the two rings that were placed to prevent the wood from splitting interesting.
The other Yew, there are no such problems and it has an interesting branch that extends towards the entrance gate completely horizontally.
I pass around the church and come across a beautifully decorated, small, courtyard church, where the church home is also located. My attention is drawn to an interesting gate and a small palm tree, for which this snow is probably not a natural environment.
I look at the yew tree, behind which you can see the dome of the Patriarchate, and after leaving the yew church, we continue walking through the city streets, until we reach our favorite Šećer cafe, where we drink the most delicious cappuccino ever.
Considering the cold weather, this is quite enough walking and interesting shots for this #WednesdayWalk week.
