Hello archi lovers!
We walk again through mythical and historical cities, full of culture and especially architecture from another era that remains perennially with us, and we enjoy it during the visit.
This time it is about Cuenca, another Castilian city in Spain (we already shared a post about the historic Toledo before) and now we will see what Cuenca is like.
It is a very old city, and much of its history has remained with us. And let's go directly to the most iconic element because it is almost the most visible and surprising.
Cuenca is the city of hanging houses, that is what some of its medieval houses are called, whose balconies or wooden windows look directly at the beginning, almost vertigo-inducing. And it gives the impression that they hang there in that ravine where the small Huécar river runs, where you can see more vegetation than anything else.
But we go in parts, a cobbled and wooded city, both elements or materials are combined in a strong, hard, protective architectural style from an ancient era. As it appears on the sign, the hanging houses are from the 14th century. And the urban center of the city belongs to that era or similar, we will not see large modern glass buildings with pronounced edges, at least in that entire area. But there are surprises because inside those famous hanging houses there is a museum of modern art. You just have to discover it!
But if you like history and its architecture, walking through its streets we will enjoy a magical immersion in the past. Steep and narrow streets show us curious details, barred windows, balconies full of vegetation, thick walls, large stones, clay tile roofs and centuries-old facades.
Until we reach the heart of the city square where we see the great cathedral of the city, a space in which there is life and a majestic building of those that are no longer built but those that exist remain and we love to see them.
And what else? We walk wherever we want, charming corners anywhere and we go out again towards the ravine. And there more views!
And mainly there the suspension bridge also hangs, the San Pablo Bridge that takes us further and gives us another perspective, in the distance one Parador, an old convent where some can now stay, I think...
But we enjoyed the sensation from the emptiness, nature and historical facades that appear from above in an amazing way.
And with all that amazement and that trip to the past we go in the car thinking about everything we have seen and that feeling of hanging in nothingness around an emblematic historical place that merges with the surrounding nature and now we pass almost at speed the always apparent fields of sunflowers, although not the nearby mills, of Castilla La Mancha.
Cuenca, Spain ❤️ Europe
Thanks so much for reading! Have an amazing and nice day.
BY THE WAY: the Ecency editor is creating problems, images again cannot be load... and the process is slow so I had to copy all and post through Peakd.
