Ada was still in primary 3 when she lost her dad . She wondered how life would become for them since her dad was the only breadwinner. Agnes, Ada's mum, had promised herself to enroll her children through the highest level of education since she was denied the opportunity to go to school when she was younger. Her parents had restricted them from schooling, at that time they believed education was only for the boy child and the female child was meant for the kitchen. Ada was only in primary 3, while James, her elder brother was in Jss 1, Agnes assured herself that her promise to give her children the best education would stand.
Six months after the death of her husband, things became hard for her. She could barely feed three square meals, but she was happy she could still afford the school fees for her children. She goes to the forest to fetch wood and sell, sometimes she fries yams. She saved the little money she realized from her business to sponsor her children in school. She always wore the same wrapper. She washes it at night, and wears it the next morning when it is dry. People laughed at her but she chose to give her children the best life over luxuries.
Agnes felt the best gift she could give to her children was a better future. A future her parents had denied her, and she was ready to do whatever it takes, as long as it was genuine to give them that future. Ada and James went through college and high school and studied the course of their choice. Agnes never failed to give them the motherly affection they wanted even though she never spared the rod. She wanted them to become the best children in which everyone would be proud of. She taught them what they needed to know about life and to appreciate everything they have.
Ada became a lawyer while James became a medical doctor. On the day of their graduation, Ada couldn't hold her tears of Joy, she acknowledged her mum who had stood as a heroine to give them the best life at the point of denying herself luxury. They all promise to give her those luxuries she had denied herself just to ensure their dreams were fulfilled.

Ahorró el poco dinero que obtuvo de su negocio para patrocinar a sus hijos en la escuela. Siempre usaba el mismo envoltorio. Lo lava por la noche y lo usa a la mañana siguiente cuando está seco. La gente se reía de ella, pero optó por darles a sus hijos la mejor vida antes que los lujos.
Agnes sintió que el mejor regalo que podía darles a sus hijos era un futuro mejor. Un futuro que sus padres le habían negado, y estaba lista para hacer lo que fuera necesario, siempre y cuando fuera genuino darles ese futuro. Ada y James fueron a la universidad y la escuela secundaria y estudiaron el curso de su elección. Agnes nunca dejó de brindarles el cariño maternal que querían a pesar de que nunca escatimó en la vara. Quería que se convirtieran en los mejores niños de los que todos estuvieran orgullosos. Ella les enseñó lo que necesitaban saber sobre la vida y apreciar todo lo que tienen.
Ada se convirtió en abogada mientras que James se convirtió en médico.
