COMMANDER SLADE.
For a while I have wanted to draw this character so bad after seeing one neatly drawn Golem entry in the Splinterlands Art Contest. The rhythm of that piece sparked something in my. And as God will have it, I saw a Warhammer posture that looked very similar to this yesterday. I then planned to use that as my backdrop before adding Commander Slade's body parts.
Just like the representation of the Golem I saw, I tried to maintain a steady rhythm across the entire process. This character is not just fierce in graph, even drawing it took up all my time.
The lineart didn't go as planned so I thought of retracing it but I guess that mumbled the work even till the end.
After noticing that I was making little or no headway by tracing again and again, I used my black pen to make it solid.
I then lightly layered (in rhythm) the parts that had the colour blue for a start.
I further extended this blue painting gesture. And anidst this I did the interior of the helmet and the handle of the sword.
The blue needed some reinforcement of which I was more than ready to provide. Again, notice the rhythm
... moving on I extended this firm gesture to the lower parts of the armour
...then came the reds and the painting of the sword
And after an hour and some, I had my Commander Slade.
The materials I used while making this sketch are blue, black and red pens from two brands: BIC and SCHNEIDER
