There's an article tilted "When You’re Told You’re Not Strategic Enough" which was written by Luis Velasquez. I saw the title and got interested in it, I honestly haven't read the whole thing yet but I get the main point.
The article discusses what happens when leaders are told they lack strategic skills, even when they feel they’re doing their absolutely best and can't possibly do more. It has a story of a tech executive called Jason. His CEO questioned his strategic thinking. But after considering his performance Jason realized it wasn't really his skill in strategy that was lacking, but rather how he communicated it to his coworkers.
The author of the article has shared some practical tips to change this perception. I'll share some of it with you but it you can go find the book and read it for more details.
He said you should first, use stories and visuals to make complex strategies easier for your coworkers to understand. Second you should work within common frameworks, like OKRs, to properly align everyone’s efforts with the company's goals. Just in case you don't understand what OKRs is, it's short for Objectives and Key Results and it's a goal setting method for teams to set measuring and attainable goals.
And the third thing you should do is to create opportunities for stakeholders of the company to understand how the strategy connects to their respective roles. He mentioned that you should also make some time for regular strategic thinking and don't forget to do that even when things get busy at work.
