In our efforts to meet the human unending needs and want. We toil and work so hard and yet some sometimes we don’t get what we want, we find our self in places we don’t wish to be, and we see our self derailing from the path we used to succeed.
In many occasion we get dissatisfied by the result of our labor. At the cost of our journey in life, we sometimes lost our loved ones to the cold hand of death, we were shocked by their sudden demise not because we dint know that death existed, but it may be because the decease soul is our bread winner, our friend, our spouse.
We also tend to get a shocking disappointment from people we loved and trust because of the loyalty and honesty we pledge them to be.
In view of this entire scenario, we get worried, lonely, and start thinking on what next to do. We sometimes withdraw our self from people around us; we are most likely reserved to our self and eventually get depressed.
Depression is that point or stage in life where one feels unworthy, hopelessly, lost full, self-rejected and loose of interest on things they used to do.
It could also be dissociation from the normal pattern of doing things and disengagement from activities that we regularly do and enjoyed.
Example; few years after I graduated from college of health and technology, my dream is to be a surgical doctor. I applied for a medical course and I was given chemistry, I accepted the offer with a view I could get a change of course. I had a great performance which could take me to my desire faculty but was denied the chance because I have no one to link me up. This made me to be very frustrated, I was angry, and felt sick; I stopped attending lectures, I was drastically reserved to myself; I felt my dreams are shattered. But somehow I managed to write my 200level exam and when the result was out, I had no issue.
At this point, a voice sounded in me to cheers up and look at the positives side chemistry can offer, what I can maximize with chemistry. I now discovered I can do a lot of things with knowledge of chemistry; with this in mind I was able to set myself free from depression.
Depression can hit anyone whether rich or poor, adult or young, employed or unemployed, business men and women. Almost everyone is vulnerable to depression but the patterns employed to deal with it give us a better chance to cope with it stings.
HOW TO COPE WITH DEPRESSION
There are many factors or situation that can leads to depression; each individual has his/her own cause of depression
1.The first strategy to cope with depression is to know the cause of your depression; if someone is depressed due to lost of someone he/she loves, it’s better to know that death is always happening around and no matter how long we take to mourn our death ones, it won’t bring them back. You just have to accept the fact that they are gone forever.
2.Look at things with another dimensional view; you can cope with depression by adopting new option that your situation has put you into; a woman get depressed due to death of her husband three years after their wedding. She can mourn her death and as well know that she can still get married by another man. Always know and believe that there’s no problem that has no solution.
3.Share your feelings with someone; sometimes a problem shared is half solved already, have a heart to heart conversion with some who might bring positive and comforting words to you. Even if the person had nothing to say or do, your ability to speak out your burden reduce your internal pressure and give some sense of relieve which provide grounds for gradual recovery.
4.Learn to forgive yourself and other people: we sometimes get depressed due to our inability to forgive our self for the mistake we might have done in life; you might not be able to cope with depression if your inner self is not forgiven. You also need to forgive whoever that might have offended you. Stop thinking and pondering over what people have done to you
5.Reduced your budget and expectation: a working class young man might budget to buy a new car, but unfortunately due to how grumbled and shattered the economy of our country is, it’s very difficult to get food to eat talk more of buying a car. Due to failure to accomplished a specific budget, an individual might be sting with depression at the end the year. For your to cope in this situation, you only need to re-adjust your budget to what your income at hand can afford.
6.Eat enough balance diet: good food is just like a good fuel to machine, we need to eat food for it to nourish our body and provide the strength with need to tackle any kind of situation around us. No matter how hard the situations around us, we don’t need to look like our problems. Poor feeding habit can make us lack the strength we need to face a physical issue that requires energy.
7.Engage in physical exercise: our body system needs exercise which helps to get rid of numerous waste products. There is numerous exercises like short distance walk, running, football, swimming, etc. exercise enable us to forget our problem temporally and gradually help to recover fully.
8.Above all, be prayerful: our faith in God can give us hope to cope with every kind of situation, always pray to God for help. When life pushes you to the wall, get on your kneels and pray. Prayer is a crucial tool, a medium to get in touch with our creator (God). Always remember to pray not only when you are depressed, or sad.
