Don't Ignore the Philosophy

I was having a lenghty conversation with one of my colleagues yesterday and we both seemed to appreciate just how different our perspectives are. Of course it isn't everytime these differences are appropriated. As a matter of fact in more general terms they probably are more vilified than anything else. Yet for this situation, I've definitely been filled with a deep sense of appreciation for some rather unique insights.

One thing we discussed at length was how different our workspace is from previous organisations we have worked with. To put it mildly, my current organisation takes a lot of pride in creating a work environment that stretches the average person. I have fierce criticisms of the place, but i also in turn have some praises about their sense of accountability which ensures that someone is always delegated a task and held accountable in the event of success or failure of said task.

Ultimately the philosophy of a place will eventually rub off on our activities. I've slowly become a workaholic at work which isn't something I ever imagined. In order to thrive I have had to adapt. Perhaps it is something I should have paid more attention to before I accepted the offer. I believe in balance and am certainly not accepting a life as a full fledged workaholic. Yet this is where I find myself for now, it is about making the best of it and coming out with positives.
