Sometimes, APMEX has good deals for those who have their app.
It's not the first time I have seen "at-spot" offers. The last one I had was for 1kg of silver. As much as I wanted it, it was way above my usual budget. This time, I was able to take advantage of the offer.
For the record, I don't know if my club member status with APMEX affects the type of offer or smoothness of service. I have had friends who either didn't receive the same offer or had their orders rejected altogether.
They didn't get lost in the mail, at least! The lighting on the 1g bars did not help capture their majesty. Secondary market purchases tend to be a bit like opening a mystery box. You'll never know what you might get. For your information, I received four CombiBars. This style of precious metal bars is known for being able to break down into small pieces like you see in the photo. In theory, you'd want these for bartering situations.
The downside of 1g bars of anything is that they are small. It's a good thing I don't plan on handling them very often and will be locked away somewhere. Even as a bartering tool, I find it somewhat precarious to be carrying these around. As for the premiums, gold Combibars have relatively low premiums. Silver CombiBars, on the other hand, has an outrageously high premium, so purchase at your discretion. They also come in platinum and palladium, but I have never been heavily into them. Perhaps I might start in the future.
