TIME (An Original Poem & Thoughts On My 8th Anniversary on Hive)

in #hive3 months ago

What if each moment
exists in its own dimension,
and time is but a strand
of worlds in which we lace?

Beyond cause
and effect
lies an amazing place
of coincidence and
it’s so easy to be
driven to distraction
by the stories it speaks.

Yet when Divinty enters
the room you know it,
the undeniable essence of it
is thrust deeply into your heart.

It echoes a reminder
of who it is you really are,
presenting you with
a set of eyes
to connect with,
a brief moment of
sacred reconciliation.

In this world
beauty is rarely
long with us,
so we must
embrace imperfection,
learn to trust it,
before we rust
into oblivion.

To find happiness
we must simply
stop running.
There is more
to life than the hustle.

A lasting legacy
isn’t built upon
making memories
we think will become
some gripping memoir
but merely embracing
each moment and fully
accepting it as our own.

My Thoughts on 8 Years of Blogging on Hive

Every year around this time I think about how I consider July 5th as my true Independence Day. This is the date back in 2016 when I was sitting on my couch in our tiny apartment and customer support unlocked my account (I was having technical issues) and I began blogging.

It only took a few weeks for it to completely change my life. I had a backlog of over twenty years of, mostly, unpublished writing. For the first time in my life all the stars aligned and the previous decades of struggles made perfect sense.

Hive is a constantly evolving thing and it's a different experience for everyone. Like life, you get out of it what you put into it. It opens doors, it can change lives, it serves as a network of support, and allows us to see the world through all kinds of different lenses.

Through the past eight years Hive has been all those things for me. Many of you are like friends, some of you are like family. Damn, we've been through a lot together, haven't we? Writing here on this platform has been the one constant in my life for nearly a decade.

This blog has been the best incubator for my muse imaginable. I intend on keeping this up as long as it's still fun, as long as people are still interested, as long as I have an idea and feel that burning desire to open the laptop to share it with you all. I hope this continues for a long time to come because I see the great value in it despite what the price of the Hive tokens are. There aren't very many of us originals left but I appreciate those consistently breathing new life into this platform.

Thank you, Hive family, for all the support and love you've shared over the years. It truly does mean the world to me.

Enjoy the day. Thank you for reading!

Beautifully composed, we readers are the lucky ones. Congratulations on your eight years and here's to many, many more.

Thank you very much Tamara! I'm always thrilled when I see one of my posts really resonating. It doesn't happen as much as it used to but I'm beyond grateful nonetheless.

8 candles on the Hive cake 🎂 Definitely a lot to celebrate! I've only been around for a few years but I wouldn't want to miss the peeps I've befriended here on Hive. A wonderful place in this "tiny" universe 😉

Jesus, almost a decade?! It's crazy to think about. I feel the same way about our "tiny" universe. I like that Hive has stayed somewhat exclusive, it adds to its charm.

Hive really sounds like a true sanctuary for creativity and community. It's so cool to hear how deeply it's impacted your life over the years brother. Hope to make great memories here

Thank you!

You're most welcome brother

Time a very precious factor that we must not really joked with because it offers so much to us beyond we can ever imagine

You have been with hive for many years, it's definitely a good platform and stay here. Very beautiful poem

Happy early Hive birthday to you! It really is fulfilling to see ourselves building something here. Especially with all the other destruction that is happening.

Thank you @bozz. Yes, creation is always so much better than destruction. I would never spend this much time on mainstream social media platforms but this is like a global club for those who're on the cutting edge and free thinkers.

I agree!

Since I am a DIYer, I always appreciated the Japanese ideal of wabi-sabi which essentially embracing imperfection 😀

Yes, I appreciate that too. The imperfections are where the lasting memories are made. Good to hear from you!

A nice poem mate. I think we must be ready to experience less beautiful, but more ugly things in this world.

Thanks!

One of the stanzas of your poem reminds me of the importance of doing nothing. It is not about being lazy, it is about understanding that trying to do many things at the same time can make us sick. Nowadays we live in a wheel where we are forced to live doing things: the one who does more things is more successful. Hyperactivism makes us feel more useful. However, how much we gain, spiritually, by dwelling on things. It is not he who eats the most who delights the most, but he who tastes the most food. I have long since learned to feel good without doing anything: just walking on the beach, watching a sunset, breathing the familiar fragrance of greenery and rain, having a coffee or a beer with a friend. Embrace every moment, savor my 24 hours a day and of course among those things I like to do is to enter HIVE: that parallel universe where people so physically distant, like you and me, manage to find each other. Hugs and nice Thursday, Eric.

Ah, congratulations for those 8 years. This journey has been enriching for those of us who read you. Here's to many more years of rewarding encounters. Cheers

Thanks! It's weird to think of a world without this place doesn't it? Cheers!

Doing nothing is a skill I need to practice. I have a tough time with that. What you say is so true though, multi-tasking and hustling are drilled into our heads by employers and influencers. In the end I think people accomplish far less this way though. Thank you! This place has been a sanctuary for so many of us, especially the creative people. I hope you enjoy the weekend my friend! : )

Glad to see you have been getting so much out of your time here. I can fully understand how it felt when that twenty years of writing for essentially no one other than yourself suddenly found a means of achieving a much wider expression. A similar thing happened to me around ten years ago and now I'm writing like mad to try to make up for some of those 'lost' years and loving every minute of it.

It's weird how it's changed for me throughout the years. So many of my original followers left the platform long ago but I still appreciate the value of it. Congratulations to you for being on such a good writing streak! That feels very good.

How are you dear friend @ericvancewalton good afternoon
I admire your compositions, you are great at writing poetry
I love this verse, what you say is very true

¨A lasting legacy
is not built
creating memories
which we believe will become
passionate memories,
but simply hugging
every moment and
accepting it fully as ours.¨

I fully agree with your reflections on #hive, I think it is the most beautiful thing that could have happened to us.

happy 8th anniversary dear friend Eric

Thank you! It's been a long, long week my friend but it's coming to a close. I hope you're well! Have a wonderful weekend.

I like it, and it seems appropriate to immortalise it in a couple of Haikus:

Worlds intertwine, dance,
time’s thread weaves cosmic stories,
divine heart whispers.

Embrace imperfections,
trust rusted moments, stillness,
legacy in now.

Very good!

To find happiness
we must simply
stop running.
There is more
to life than the hustle.

Absolutely true, and for some reason this in you great poem grabbed me, as that is exactly what I am doing for a few years now.

Congratulations are in order Eric, and now for the next 8 years.

Have a Hive !BEER

Thank you my friend! I'm glad you've been able to slow down and appreciate life. We aren't meant to work as hard as modern life dictates. They're saying people in the Middle Ages even worked less hours than the average person does today.

You are right about the Middle Ages, and they say that with age comes wisdom. I have led a hectic life up to the age of 60 years, and then the thought emerged to start slowing down. So, I listened and clothed the thought in action, it was the best thing that I ever did.
I hope that your weekend is good my friend.
