What is art?

Art is something that stimulates an individual's thoughts, emotions, beliefs, or ideas through the senses. Works of art can be explicitly made for this purpose or interpreted on the basis of images or objects. source

If you run a search on the internet, you can find a lot of definitions, most likely very different ones, but at the end of the day, art means very different thing to people, but at the end of the day, what counts is how the artist wanted to express their thoughts and feelings and how you see it. Nothing, more. And if we touched the subject, the price of an artwork can't be confused with its value, these are two different things. Price is what you pay, value is what you get. Price is determined by the market (supply and demand), value is determined by you (in my opinion). In my last art post a couple of days ago, I showed you some amazing artworks that in my eyes worth much more than their price.

Journal II.

I was standing in front of this painting, looking at each element, reading what it means, or could mean. It has three repetitive elements, like the church (different architecture though), the lovely lace-like pattern and the handwriting. Look at how many combinations of these elements are there as each box is different. I love it! It's absolutely brilliant.

Brown Sun

Indeed, this sun is not the usual sun you see on paintings, but that's exactly the point here. I was looking at those rays, trying to figure out how the artist did them, but lack of experience on my behalf stops me from having an answer, but for me, these rays are the most interesting. Opting for these colors was also a very good idea in my opinion.

Everyday Traces

Again, I stood in front of the painting and looked at each section, trying to figure out what the artist meant. Look at the one in the lower left corner.

I mean this part. Fingerprints, a line at the bottom, that could be an electrocardiogram and the keyhole I mentioned in my previous post. What's the connection between these elements?

It's a real puzzle, but a very good one. Having such a painting on my wall would make me try to figure out what it means and keep me busy every day.

Moon Atrium

These paintings are painted on wood, with a special paint. This means this pattern was carved into it, just don't know if in wood or some kind of gesso, a base applied to the wood.

Golden Apple Tree

Another gorgeous one, which had something the other artworks hadn't. Depending on the angle you were looking at it from, you could see a different color, or a different shade. This is something unique for sure. I tried to capture it, but the truth is, the lens of a camera is not like a human eye.

Most likely you see the same colors, or the difference is insignificant, but look at the details.

Look at the texture. Most likely you can't get this on canvas, even if you apply a base.

Triple Hill

This is a bit difficult to read, even for me.

Those columns can be, and most likely are kopjafák. Kopjafa is a traditional Transylvanian carved logs, that you can usually find in the cemetery, instead of headstones. Each symbol has its own meaning and use and you can learn a lot about the person buried there, just by reading the symbols. It's something very interesting and unique as well as I don't think there's something similar in the world. Symbols have always been used by people, but this is something unique. This artwork is like a real puzzle and I think a lot of planning stands behind it.

For example, the half moon means a young lady, the tulip symbolizes a mother and the ball means a wealthy man, or person. You can imagine how important people's status was back then. I mean today no personal info is carved on headstones, except name and dates.

Ecumenism

This was another very interesting one, with a lot of meaning, a strong message.

Ecumenism – also called interdenominationalism, or ecumenicalism – is the concept and principle that Christians who belong to different Christian denominations should work together to develop closer relationships among their churches and promote Christian unity. The adjective ecumenical is thus applied to any non-denominational initiative that encourages greater cooperation and union among Christian denominations and churches.

The fact that all Christians belonging to mainstream Christian denominations profess faith in Jesus, believe that the Bible is inspired by God (John 1:1), and receive baptism according to the Trinitarian formula is seen as being a basis for ecumenism and its goal of Christian unity. Ecumenists cite John 17:20–23 as the biblical grounds of striving for church unity, in which Jesus prays "may all be one" in order "that the world may know" and believe the Gospel message. source

For me, each artwork is like a riddle, there's always something to decipher, but this exhibition had a double, or triple dose of that. This is definitely not a bad thing, on the contrary.
