It's been ages since my last sewing post. It's like I have Alzheimer's disease as I can't even remember what it was and I know I have said this at my last post as well. I needed to look it up and it was the Denim Mat With Pockets on the 1st of November.
Anyway, today I'm back with a funny project that I have just finished. This is a funny blackout curtain that I needed for some time and have been procrastinating it till now.
I have a door with a glass window, which I hate, but I'm also not in the mood to start changing doors and make a construction site out of my apartment. So for the moment, this is the best and the cheapest solution.
I was thinking what material I should use and had a look at my stash, here I could only find boring ones. So I decided to create a funny one, from scratch. Denim is a good one as it's not letting the light out for sure, but there are disadvantages as well, like stretched out parts, which can give you a headache.
So I had a pair of jeans, I got it from a family member as they know every piece can be recycled, so there's no throwing denim away in my family. As you can see, it's a nice piece, but ...
... it's cracked nod not in a fashionable way.
For me, working with bits and pieces is a fun game, similar to a puzzle and this was one such project. Although I had the whole pair to work with, the fact that at the knees the material was stretched out badly, made my job harder.
After some thinking, planning and executing, I got this piece, which started to look nice, but it was still not big enough. I tried to keep as many original sewing in it, would have loved to keep the double line too, but unfortunately was not possible as I wanted it.
But after some thinking, I was still able to add a part of it. For me, the more pieces, the better as at least it's not boring.
The next challenge was to secure the two sides, from stretching out more. As this is an upcycling project, I found this (half) sipper in my sewing stash, which I recuperated from somewhere and seemed like a good way to use it for stopping stretching out.
I've always loved brown with this color of denim, so I think it looks good.
While I was putting the pieces together, was thinking how to decorate it to not look so plain and simple. At the beginning I had some crazy ideas, but then the best solution was to keep it simple, add two pockets in which I could put anything I want.
This cutie got the left pocket.
And this one got the right pocket.
So the jeans is recycled, the door glass has a blackout curtain and I'm happy as the project was a lot or fun and relaxing as well. Even though I've learnt sewing from YouTube and I can't tell I know to sew, I love it. It makes me relax and has some benefits as well. After charts, TA and all the sh*t that comes with crypto, a day like this is a blessing. I'm all for recycling, giving things a second life whenever I can.
