I feel like… urghhh! Okay let me explain.
A few days ago, I watched this amazing murder mystery movie titled Knives Out (2019). I really enjoyed and had fun with the movie. I was super impressed with the exceptional cast, storyline, setting and the location of the movie. At the end of the movie I had this satisfying feeling of a customer getting the service he asked for, but I can't say this for 'Glass Onion'.
Watching this movie wasn't fun for me, I will be honest. I had high expectations for this movie because of the experience I had with 'Knives Out' which happens to be the previous sequel of this movie. In my opinion, I think 'Knives Out should have been left without a sequel but I guess people wanted to see more of Detective Blanc. I am one of those people to be honest but Glass Onion didn't do detective Blanc justice.
When I was watching 'Glass onion', I fell asleep twice and when I came back to continue so I could put out my review, it got worse than before. I wasn't totally disappointed with this movie, there are some specific things that I appreciated about the movie and I will talk about them. So let's get to it.
"Glass Onion (2022)" is a murder Mystery film, a standalone sequel to 'Knives Out (2019)' that was distributed by Netflix. This movie was directed by Rian Johnson and he also co-produced it alongside Ram Bergman. It starred Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson and Dave Bautista. It revolves around detective Blanc taking on another murder case of a tech billionaire Miles Bron.
The setting of the storyline of this movie was around the pandemic year, 2020. As the movie started, we were introduced to four influential people who are close friends. During this introduction, they all received a wooden puzzle box in their different respectful locations. They all deciphered the puzzle box together on a conference call only for them to discover that there was an invitation card inside. This invitation, invites them to murder mystery game in a private Island in Greece by their friend Miles Bron, a tech billionaire.
Later, we discovered that the wooden puzzle box was also sent to the fifth person who didn't solve the puzzle but broke through the wooden box with a hammer to get the invitation card out. Miles Bron invited Lionel (a scientist), Claire (the Connecticut governor), Birdie (a controversial fashion designer), Duke (a men's rights streamer), and Andi (co-founder of Miles' tech company) to his private island and they all came.
But everything took a different turn when Detective Blanc was anonymously invited to Miles' island. Everyone was confused as to why Blanc was on the island with them. Miles tried to find out how Blanc was invited to his island without his knowledge, but Blanc had no factual answer for him. So Miles personally gave Blanc the permission to stay and participate in his murder mystery game. As the game was about to start, an actual death occurred. Who among them is the killer? Will Blanc discover this killer?
My Review And Rating.
As I review this movie, I won't be talking much about the flaws of this movie, but I will say this; 'Glass Onion' wasn't fun for me. It was slow and boring for me and I was totally disappointed with it. Yes, this movie was a disappointment for me but it was still a little entertaining for me.
I love the setting of the movie, the island, the glass Onion, the art works, and also the Monalisa painting aspect. The setting of the movie made my experience with this film vibrant and bright. The scene arrangements were okay and decent but the slow pace made the movie predictable for me. Right from the beginning I knew who the killer was and I was kind of thinking that why was it too easy for me to predict that.
The Cast were decent, normal performance, no special performance to them except for our detective Blanc. He was the only who still held on to his spotlight. The Cast of 'Glass Onion' can't be compared with the cast of 'Knives Out' not in any way.
The plot was written decently. It was okay but the problem I had with the plot is how the script and dialogues were written. Lots of silly jokes that had no effect, lots of second act's flashbacks just to connect all the loose ends which made it easier for the movie to be boring in a slow way. The flashbacks made the viewers lazy to actually keep guessing the secret behind the mystery of the story.
The ending wasn't satisfying enough for me. I didn't enjoy the ending at all because I felt like I had wasted my time watching the movie. Also, I like one thing about the ending, Miles's treasures were all burnt down. I enjoyed that part.
Overall, it was an entertaining and yet a disappointing experience for me. The movie wasn't so bad but it was not my expectation. Rating this movie, I will give it 3.5 out 5 stars. If you are into mystery movies and you haven't seen this movie, go now and watch it. 'Knives Out' movie will always be my favorite sequel.
