Last year in August on my birthday, I had a blast with the Reacher TV series that I'd been anxiously waiting for. I was at home throughout that day, ate a lot of cake I bake for myself and binge the first season of Reacher series in one sitting. I couldn't stop watching because it was too interesting for me and it was the perfect screen adaption. I did a review on it, you can check out my thoughts on the first season here.
When I saw the first season I was impressed so immediately afterwards, I began reading Child Lee’s Jack Reacher book series. I couldn't stop myself because this TV series was a fantastic action and thriller film. If you know me well, you would know I love a good action or thriller movie anytime of the day.
Why I say this Reacher series is the perfect screen adaptation of the Book series is because I have three books out of the series and I can boldly say that the Jack Reacher book series was perfectly adapted into motion pictures all thanks to Nick Santora who created the series.
Reacher is an action, crime and thriller TV show that its first season has already premiered in 2022. Now, the second season premiered around December 2023. The wait for the second season was worth it in the end.
The second seasons storyline was based on Lee Child's book titled ’Bad Luck And Trouble’ which centers around Jack Reacher's past life as a special investigator team leader back when he was in the military. In this season we got to know more about Jack Reacher and his career in the military.
Little About The Plot.
In the Catskill Mountains, a mysterious man was thrown out from a helicopter and fell to his death. This scene became a murder mystery which sets the stage for Jack Reacher to be involved in the investigation later on. The next scene, Jack was seen in Arkansas buying a change of clothes as usual when he met a woman who was being abused by an armed carjacker. Jack came to rescue and subdued the carjacker.
Afterwards, Jack received a coded message from Neagley, his former military teammate. From the message, Jack got to know that one his teammate back in the past had been brutally murder. So Jack and Neagley discover that there is a sinister plot targeting every living member of their once-specialized army unit, fueled by the murder of Franz, the mysterious man that was thrown from the helicopter.
Swearing to avenge their fallen comrade, the trio (Jack, Neagley, and O'Donnell) now decided to expose the truth behind the targeted killings. As they continued this mission, Dixon, a member of their team, was also pulled in to join their mission.
However, as the investigation gained momentum, Reacher, Neagley, Dixon and O'Donnell encountered unexpected problems which led them to discover more of their teammates were killed. But then, their mission got easier with help and collaboration of a NYPD Detective, Russo. Will Jack and his team be able to get to the root of the killings?
Characters.
Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher
I will just say, without Ritchson, this series would be interesting or the perfect adaptation. Ritchson’s performance was amazing and excellent. He is active, stoic, and unpredictable, just like the main character from the books. He played and performed his role well. I enjoyed every bit of his performance. His dark humor was good and right when it is needed in the dialogues. He was the spotlight and the star of the show.
Maria Sten as Neagley
Maria is one of my favorite characters in this TV show. She won my heart! She is a corporate security professional who served with Reacher back in the Army as a Master Sergeant. Her performance was good, firm, always grumpy, but has a soft spot for our boy Reacher as a good and reliable friend. She was good and she has good chemistry with the main protagonists. I hope to see more of her in the next seasons.
Shaun Sipos as O'Donnell
Sipos is a lawyer with a family, who served with Reacher back during their army days. His performance was fun to watch. He came with a feisty energy and humor. He was also entertaining but he character didn't get much spotlight.
Serinda Swan as Dixon
Swan is a forensic accountant in corporate risk management, who also served with Reacher. She was also the Reacher's love interest in this season. In my opinion, she was a bad pair with Reacher. There was no chemistry between the two of them. They both acted awkwardly during romance scenes.
All other supporting characters were excellent. Their performance was felt all through each episode. The antagonist too was good. I will say, overall, Reacher season two’s cast was exceptional.
My Review And Rating.
The plot of this season was written in an intriguing way. It was fully packed with mystery, twist, suspense and thrilling action scenes. It was also spiced up with sweet revenge at the end which made the end of this season satisfying.
Scene arrangements were perfect. All the scenes were arranged in a unique way that at the same time the viewers get clips of Reacher's past life and full story of what was happening in the present. The directorial style was great. Every scene in the show was directed in a fast paced way which further intensified the thrill and suspense of the show. The directors did an amazing job!
The cinematography was excellent, good lighting effects, good visuals, average scenery. The camera work was excellent. It was well done and it gave the viewers a wide range of motion pictures. Camera angles were good too. Also, the action stunts were hardcore, lots of bones breaking, and the fighting technique was excellent. There is not much gore, it's not that bloody and not not nudity, but there is tons of profanity.
Rating this season, I will give it 9 out of 10 stars. If you are a Jack Reacher fan, this don't not miss this TV series because it is a perfect screen adaptation. It was entertaining and I enjoyed watching every bit of it. I would also recommend this series to avid lovers of action, crime and thriller films.
