Boarding house chronicles

I am shocked that I never shared this part of my life here on hive because I have so many stories to tell, too many but would stick to the question for this edition that asks about one injury.

Unfortunately, I am prone to injury, it has become a thing for me that I am working so hard to stop. I can wake up today with different injury marks and not know where they came from, my legs have all sorts of injury marks, some I remember and others I have no idea how it got there.

But there is this prominent one on my knew cap, thankfully the older I go the less obvious it has become. It was one of my worst injury experiences. This injury was the reason I changed my secondary school after spending just one year but I am grateful for that one year because it gave me amazing friends @reineesmay and @petrashittu

It was a Saturday morning and Saturdays are labor day where everyone is assigned duties and they do them, I was given “gutter duty” and our job was to tidy up the gutters around us from grass and dirt, which wasn’t a bad duty compared to those on toilet duty...

I was doing my work with others when the assistant labor prefect gave me toilet duty instead, I refuses to go cause I was almost far gone and besides the main prefect was the one who gave me the duty.

When I was done and about to take my breakfast, they called names of people who defaulted in their duties for punishment and my name was among them.

I was trying to explain but it was a waste of time. So since every duty has been done the best punishment they could come up with was for us to crawl from the hostel to the school gate and back.

It sounded easy and quick but most of the school floor was made of granite, like the floors we have on express roads. Those stony floors.

I saw some students bringing our knee pads like they have done this before, another robbing ointment, and I was so naive I just went on my knees and crawled.

It was hard, halfway in I was bleeding, I pleaded with the prefect that I would take on double duty if I can stop but she insisted I finish.

I was in pain, my knee was sore and I was scared to go to the school clinic so I was managing the injury but it got worst, white, smelly, and irritating.

I use a handkerchief to cover my knee daily to school, I limped for weeks and got sick it had gotten infected and I didn't know.

Lucky me, the midterm break was a few days after I got sick, I managed the sickness till I got home. When my parent saw the sore they screamed, my mum was so pissed at me for not speaking up soon that she doesn’t understand that if I said anything I would put the senior prefect in trouble and that means more punishment for me.

My dad made up his mind that I would only return for the exams and that was it, they started searching for school before I even finished the third term.

And that was the first and last time I got punished for anything till I left the school.

I begged my parents to let me stay, but they wouldn’t have it.

From that day I learned to speak up, no matter the consequences because if I had gone for treatment and ignored my fear, I would have graduated from this amazing school I liked😫

The funny thing is this senior that gave me this punishment is a popular celebrity now, always on our tv screens and on reality show, the first time I saw her and told my mum, she became her enemy and told everyone that needed to hear not to vote or like her.

I was almost drawn to send her a message and remind her of everything but I am sure she won’t remember cause I wasn’t even the only one she treated so badly.

From what I see online, Seems she is a better person now.Well, i hope so.

Aunty prefect do your worst, by the time I report you and call my parents to harass you for harassing me

You self go free me
I for too stubborn cox I hate oppression en

Sorry about your experience. Speaking up is good. I think this is what parents should teach their children . A lot of children die in silence because they feel that speaking up may make the matter worse. I was bullied too as a child. But I will teach my children never to accept bullying. Once anything happen, run to daddy or mummy.

Exactly, I am big on expression for children, they should freely express themselves no more shutdown for the children of our generation

I hate that punishment, it can damage someone knee. I haven't done it before but my friends have.

Wow... injuries like these are really dangerous, you think they are little problems but once they get infected they can become something entirely different. Thankfully you survived it all.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

I highly doubt she's changed but okay 😂. Boarding school can be really awful. My cousin's attended Command and the stories aren't always nice. My mom also went to boarding school. Her stories even back then, were not nice. 😂

My Interscience teacher was fond of this particular punishment, I am always a victim because he usually sends notes and barely comes to class so I usually don't write his subject note because I believe he was paid to do the job.

His punishment are crawling and cutting grass and no teacher could stand up to face him, even the student are scared to mention his behavior but a girl eventually broke the spell he was using on us, her father was an army and I believe you know the rest of the story.

My knee was bad then, we do crawl up and down on stairs, very annoying punishment. That your prefect is something else, why would they bestow so much power on them?

I would follow her to drag nonsense if I was the one, I don't accept cheating in school. I am very cool but they know me for that
