There is this slang I make emphasis on from time to time, it is about making reference to something without having an evidence to back up what you are saying. Then we say, "you go explain tire". Very funny though but it is true, without evidence you have nothing to certify your claims.
And this is the reason why those in crime make sure they have the evidence disappear, once there is no evidence, there cannot be a claim.
Bury the evidence at the first sight of danger or when everything goes sideways can also be protect the evidence for those hoping to prove or do the right thing.
