Water is one of the most beneficial natural resources anyone can think of. From agelong, the dependence of humanity on nature and its resources for sustainance shows how indispensable they were with water been of high significance. Water which may come from different sources such as from rainfall, ocean/rivers, wells etc is central to human existence as there is a short span of time we humans can dwell on this planet without it. A wise saying goes on that: "No one fights with water" which shows how important it is. For a better appreciation of the benefits of water, the following are its proven benefits as it regards humanity and our well being:
• HYDRATION: Water is of usefulness to keep the body's cells healthy by hydrating them and also, it moistens the body membranes. Dehydration can be so deadly and same with diseases/conditions leading to dehydation of the body with physical evidence on the skin texture and appearance.
• DIGESTION: The human digestive system with starts from the mouth has water play a significant role even as water supports instestinal (gastrointestinal) functions and also in the production of saliva which is key to digestive functions right from the mouth.
• LUBRICATION: Water serves as a lubricant to the joints and helps prevent stiffness or ware/tear as seen in machines without proper lubrications owing to friction.
• REGULATION: Water is key to osmotic regulations and body temperature control.
• COGNITION: Adequate water intake has been said to improve the cognitive function of the brain and it also enhances memory/concentration.
• DETOXIFICATION: Sufficient water intake has been proven to support the natural body detoxification by removing wastes and harmful toxins in the body.
• PROTECTION: Some body organs are protected by the fluid system around them with water been a large part of it and this helps them in their optimum functioning.
• CIRCULATION: The body circulation is improved by taking sufficient water. Water forms bulk of the body fluids and is a major constituent of some body fluids which shows how significant it is in the body circulation of blood, digested food, air to various body parts where they are needed.
• IMPROVES MOOD: Water can be refreshing and hence, helps to improve mood by relieving of anxiety, stress and dehydration.
•NUTRITION: Balanced diet which is a meal that contains the 6 classes of food can be said to have been complete without water. Infact, metabolism of these foods in the body has water playing a crucial part.
Haven known some of the benefits of water (with many others remaining), it is therefore essential to take adequate water in sufficient quantities on a daily basis. I once listened to someone who told me of how healthy he was with medical checkup confirmations simply by him taking sufficient quantity of water and eating fruits aswell. As a healthcare professional, i do counsel people of the need to stay hydrated especially we from the tropics and also considering climate change with heat waves as experienced in several nations of the world.
