After my morning to do, I continued and finished a new acrylic painting I had started the night before. I've painted this on a smaller scale with watercolour before, and the acrylic painting was more of a challenge this time, especially the background. The original background consisted of a very pretty orange and sunny yellow blotch, which I wanted to use to paint some star nebulae. I've realised that there are few things harder than that! With watercolour it was relatively easy, but with acrylic paint...
In any case, it is not as realistic as the Hubble Space Telescope images, but it is pleasing to the eye. Perhaps more subdued colours should have been used. Next time...
This time I didn't forget to take photos of all the phases, although today I got into a state of flow for a while and missed a couple of photos. I bought a dotting kit yesterday, and dotting with these tools was the first time I tried it. I already know that I will not only make mandalas with these great tools.
Now, see the process:
Cut out deer head, not too symmetric. Symmetry is often boring and unnatural.
After gluing, I started painting.
I started dotting here, big ones at first.
I continued with tiny dots.
I applied transparent layers of paint to the highly contrasting light spots with a brush - after drying, of course.
On closer inspection, you can see that I even used gold paint at the end.
