Many people love the idea of working from home after experiencing working onsite many times, but they don't know that every job has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Hello readers, my name is fashtioluwa, and today, I will be sharing some of my experience from working remotely as I am currently doing and working on-site as I have been doing in the past few years.
Let's take a look back to 2023, this year was the recent year I worked on-site and it was great. One of the advantages of working on-site was that, I got to leave the house every day which shows a sense of responsibility as many people in the society believe. If you are a man who seats at home every day, there are two things people will think about you, it either
- You are a fraudster
- You are useless.
In my society, it is compulsory for a man to find his way to his job and make ends meet. 2023 was a great year because I got to enjoy the benefits of working onsite and meeting new people on the road.
There was a lady who I met in the transit on my way home one day, we had a short conversation and we met again sometime before we exchanged our contact. Today, we are very close friends.
All this is not possible when one is working remotely. Another advantage of working onsite is that, without hitting the gym, one gets to exercise their body by talking a walk and moving around but with a remote job, you do that when you go to the gym or exercise yourself.
We are social beings which means we have to socialize more often if we want to grow. It's the December festive period and many of my friends who work on-site have been given lots of relief packages from the company they work for while I am home getting nothing.
2024 was the year I started working remotely, I work for a tech company as their technical and creative writer, it was enjoyable because I don't have to get up early to rush to work, I get to set my schedule and I don't feel like I am living my life in a loop.
While working remotely, I was able to get another job which was an addition to the one I was doing before and this is something people working on site can't do. I cook my food when I live and my routine is different daily depending on the task assigned to me on Jira.
I also have time to plan my day and the activities in my day, I can visit friends while working and do things at my own convenience as much as I get my job done.
As I said in the beginning, each kind of job has its advantages and disadvantages. There are times I would be alone while working without talking or relating with anyone, if there is a mistake in my job I have to find the solution myself because there is no one to seek help from. I stay alone and working sometimes gets so boring I also want to stop what I am doing. Almost? I actually stop, take a nap then continue.
My Preference
If I were to choose between a site and a remote job, I would rather go for a remote job because I don't want to live my life in a loop. The advantage a remote job has over an on-site job is more than I can count which is why I would prefer a remote job.
I have worked the two kinds of job so in my personal opinion, I would go with remote. Although there are some things remote jobs can never give you that On-site jobs would give you but I rather stick with the remote job.
