The new year started with a couple of new series, some good, some bad and some mediocre. If you are bored and don't want to read further Echo is mediocre at best. See i saved you some time, kudos to me. In case you want to learn more stay with me and keep reading for 1-2 minutes.
Echo is series around the Marvel Universe and more specifically it is tied with other series and heroes of the franchise like the Daredevil, The Punisher, Luke Cage and so on. This series focuses on Echo and her relationship with Kingpin. The series, is actually a minie series having 5 episodes of around 40 minutes each. Thank god i say!
Plot
The plot is quite simple. We see in a couple of early scenes the whole childhood of Echo, and then how she becomes kingpin's underdog. Fast forward we see the scene with Hawkeye revealing some hard facts to Echo, making her shoot Kingpin and decide to destroy his legacy.
To do that she starts back to her own town where she grew up where once again after many years she meets relatives and friends. Note that when Echo's mother died her grandma blamed her father due to him being involved with crime. Because of that her Dad along with her had to move to New York and live together. This is where she met Kingpin as well, as her "uncle".
What I Liked and What I Didn't
I don't think i have a lot of good things to mention but let's give it a try and see. Echo can't speak or hear that's why she is using sign language. So in many scenes, like fight scenes, or scenes with huge explosives we get to witness it from her perspective which if of course without sound. I read some bad reviews for this as well but to tell you the truth i like it.
I also, like the fact that you see a lot of people using sign language in the show, at least some effort is made. Most of the actors are great and by far the best aspect of this mini-series is Kingpin.
I have stated this many times but Kingpin is an amazing character in the way how they portray him as well as how the actor acts. Ever in Daredevil i liked Kingpin better. There is huge character development and one of the few villains that in many cases has a point in what he does or how he sees it. It's not like somebody killed my mother, ohh i will kill all humanity kind of villain.
Moving to the bad. The character development is rushed, way rushed and you can't feel anything about ECHO or any other character besides Kingpin if you have watched the other series of the franchise. Most of the fight scenes are mediocre at best and the last fight which was supposed to be epic and would be Echo vs Kingpin is a total disaster.
I don't know what woke element hit them but this isn't ECHO that you may know from the comics and this isn't a Japanese anime for 15-year-olds as well. Basically, Echo with the power of family she does some magic-like tricks and becomes a healer healing Kingpin of his anger. Yeah for real.... that has happened! Echo was supposed to "echoing" other's abilities according to the comics but apparently, she can take some of the powers that her ancestors had which doesn't even make sense at least with how they explain it.
In Conclusion, they massacred Echo and only Kingpin carried the show and that's the reason it is mediocre at best. I don't know what they are thinking every time they make a series but Disney+ apparently has a goal to destroy all of our childhood heroes and i don't speak about the superheroes! Thus, don't even bother watching it i would say, or watch it if you are extremely bored. most likely even a nap would be a better idea.
