Last Monday was a holiday in Cebu, Philippines. It is called “Osmeña Day” in honor to the first President of the Philippines who came from Cebu. It was a non-working holiday so as an employee in Cebu, we had no work on the said date.
Despite having a long weekend, we had no scheduled travel since we know this month of September has lots of incoming expenses. Every September, we had four upcoming celebrations that needed budget. First, the barangay Fiesta where my in-laws lived. Second, the birthday celebration of my nephew. Third, our wedding anniversary, and last would be the birthday celebration of my mother-in-law. So, we need to save for the upcoming events of this month.
Ordinarily, the holiday is just like an ordinary weekend for us. Before the holiday came, I asked my husband about his plan for our breakfast since it is now his task to cook for breakfast. As much as possible, he told me that we would limit our consumption of meat because of the disease of the pigs called ASF which is now experienced in our town.
So, I jokingly told him that we had no choice but to buy fish in the market early in the morning. He was fine about it too.
Morning came, and I woke up late, but my husband did not follow the plan, he did not buy fish in the market because early morning he tried to repair his motorcycle bike. It was broken a month ago and only this holiday that he decided to check and try to repair it. Well, he is good in terms of that when I woke up, he was almost finished repairing his motorcycle bike and was ready to use.
I told him whether we would continue our plan last night or change it and just buy ready-to-eat food in the eatery, yet he said that the plan must go on.
We rode his motorcycle bike and went to the market. My husband was a picky eater most especially with fish. He doesn’t like those fish who had a strong smell. Well, for me, though I don’t like the smell of fish I’m not a picky eater, fried fish is enough for me no matter what type of fish is it.
I told my husband that he would be the one to choose a fish in the market since he would be the one to cook the fish if I were tasked to buy a fish, I would choose the affordable one since I think fish have the same taste, it would only differ on how it cooked.
After he chooses the big type of fish that is commonly used as tuna. We bought half a kilo because there were only two consumers, and my husband got easily tired of eating repeated food. I don’t know about him he is not rich but too picky in terms of food.
I bought the other ingredients that were necessary to his recipe which was the fish soup. This makes our ordinary holiday extraordinary for the reason that my husband cooks fish. We don’t usually cook fish because of its smell and it’s not a good idea to buy fish after our working hours, not a good idea to put it in the refrigerator because once we do, it would be neglected and forgotten until it become rotten and thrown away.
The rest of the day is spent sleeping and using a phone. I was able to create posts too.
