Yesterday morning it was cold but not below freezing like called for. I didn't mind the lack of frost but it made getting out to start work a little harder. The boys are off school but they keep themselves occupied fairly well. I had to get my clothes washed after the dirty work of shutting the gardens down for the season and I waited for them to be done in the drier before going out to work.
My primary task for the morning was to get the pole garden dealt with. It took a bit ti get all the plants pulled and tossed over the fence to the sheep. The hardest are the sunflower bases which are super strong and love to catch the plastic.
I cleared off the bulk of the plants then pulled the plastic out into the driveway, flipping it over in the process to most easily remove all the dirt and debris before folding it. The irrigation lines all got coiled at the top of the garden and the one piece of plastic set atop them.
As I was working I looked over at this stump that is on the pen line and it is exploding in mushrooms.
I've not taken the time to look them up but they really took over the stump.
There were even tiny little buttons popping out still.
Mid day I had to move all my plants that I had cut down from outside to the basement so they don't freeze before drying. It sure makes the house smell good. I have barely enough room for them all and I got a small fan rotating around to move the air. I should probably put the box fan down to to help speed the drying along a bit faster.
Later in the afternoon I got the greenhouse mostly finished. The tobacco plants were still growing well but it was time to take them out. I picked the leaves and stacked them in the tub which ended up filled to the top.
I called it good and did not pick the smaller leaves. The plants all got pulled and tossed in the wheelbarrow to take to the mulch pile.
Then I folded the plastic up and left it on the high end. The irrigation lines got coiled as well. I have no clue what I am going to do with the greenhouse this winter as I have no heating for it yet. I may try to make something work but for now it is likely going to be storage until next year.
The Kraken played an east coast game and were doing really well until they lost in OT. @stryeyz was home late from work so I had dinner ready when she got home.
I woke to it snowing very lightly this morning. It is just over our part of the state and is moving into Idaho now. It only left about half an inch but the temps are nicely right at freezing so we should melt this off once the sun comes up. This afternoon we are taking the boys to the Minecraft exhibit downtown which they have been impatiently waiting for.
