It is now becoming pathetic to see what people go through this day. A neighbor of mine, who has five children, left to commit suicide because he could no longer hold it😭 The thought of not being aware that hardship might set in anytime made him believe he could take care of his family with the little income he was earning but the reverse is now the case. The struggle is real!
The feeling of not being able to attend to my babies' needs in terms of their cereals being slightly available in the house due to the crippling effects of high inflation is a grave issue. As a mother of two children, I find myself constantly struggling to provide for them amidst this period of economic hardship. I can only imagine the challenges faced by those with more than three kids, – how are they managing?
The constant stream of distressing news about inflation has left us weary of complaining. In just this year alone, we have witnessed how inflation has impacted both individuals and the nation as a whole. The soaring prices of essential goods and services in Nigeria have become overwhelming, leaving us wondering how we arrived at this point. Things are extremely cost! What you get at a certain price in the morning can be at a higher price in the evening.
Gone are the days when three square meals were readily available. Our diets have become imbalanced due to the scarcity of affordable food options. We eat what is available not what we wanted or craved for. Cassava flakes (Garri), a common man's food in the last four years is now for the rich🤔 A bag of rice is far more costly than the minimum wage🤔 How surprising!
The rising rental rates have made it increasingly difficult for many to find suitable housing, leaving a majority of people without a comfortable place to call home. People are homeless, a single room is $300. We can only be grateful to God for keeping us going.
Not only are businesses collapsing, but even school owners are being forced to shut down. This unfortunate situation has resulted in children roaming the streets in search of sustenance. Desperate to escape poverty, teenagers are engaging in fraudulent activities online to obtain quick wealth. The level of despair has driven some adults to commit suicide in their attempt to escape the hardships.
The cost of education has skyrocketed, making it impossible for many to afford school fees. Families are being forced to withdraw their children from private schools and enroll them in public schools. As a result, underprivileged individuals are being denied the opportunity to pursue their education due to financial constraints.
This leaves me pondering the plight of the poor🤔How are they managing to survive? Are they able to breathe amidst the suffocating grip of inflation? These questions consume my thoughts every morning when I wake up.
We only need to live through it. Check on your friends and family once in a while to see how they are holding up. Encourage them to keep the hope alive and continue living amidst the situation. It is not easy!
