Riga's appreciation post

Hello 🌻

I and @hallmann recently travelled to Riga. It was my third visit to this beautiful city, the last time was in 2018. So after a couple of years, I had the pleasure of discovering old streets as new. I am genuinely stunned by Vecrīga, a lot of art nouveau vibes around, old buildings - those wooden, and mansions, the closeness of the Baltic Sea.

We spent 5 days walking in Latvia, went two times to a beach and admired sea stories. Walking around, I took many pictures of the architectonical details, I'll be writing a different post about art nouveau vibes. We have been at Elizabete Iela, Albert Iela - nearby secession museum. It was my first time discovering Kara Museum - with a good exhibition about the I World War and gaining freedom. This part is completely new for me, as I have not known the history of Latvia in the 20th century. The exhibition itself has a good narration - items are well presented with descriptions, as well as the scenery - it builds a good visual story. The other thing that I was positively surprised by was highlighting women in history. As we know, the First World War changed the perspectives in Europe and women joined the fight.

What is also fascinating about Latvia is its design. The modern one collaborates around the folk, Scandinavian simplicity and colours. Nothing there is boring - starting from ceramics, jewellery, candles, clothes, basically all fine art. Nearby we lived, at Miera Iela, I have found 2 ceramic studios. Miera Iela is also a great spot to discover great cafes and stores - M50 and just near The Design Studio.

Also, just around the corner of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads, there is a shop where the lady handmade classical Latvian gloves. She also sews folk costumes and makes jewellery.

I've never been there, but it is on my list as it is a beautiful country, as your photos are proving that. This post would fit better in Pinmapple community, the travel community on Hive. That way you can pin your post to the map and those interested in visiting Riga, can find your post and use it as guidance. OCD is for topics that don't fit in any other community.

Here's a guide I put together to help you learn about how communities work and why you should use them -> Communities Explained - Newbie Guide. I also put together a list of communities, which is not complete, there are much more communities on Hive, but it will help you get started.

Once you posted your post in the right community, you can then cross post it to OCD community. Here's a guide about cross posting.

Please don't delete any post with the purpose of reposting it in another community as that can be considered abuse! Leave this post here, you'll get it right next time.

Hi @foggymeadow,
Great to see you using the #travelfeed tag! We launched the #travelfeed curated tag more than 3 years ago and have been supporting the best travel blogs on Hive ever since. But did you know that TravelFeed has evolved? Based on the feedback of thousands of Hive travel bloggers we created TravelFeed.io.

TravelFeed.io brings together all the benefits of Hive decentralized blogging with features that you as a travel blogger will love: Photo galleries, Instagram embeds, custom maps and more. We also offer many of the features you love on Peakd such as drafts and post scheduling. And if you want, you can even use our easy site builder to set up your own travel blog on your own domain which can be a great way to generate a passive income from your blog!

Unfortunately, focussing on developing the best platform for travelers means that we no longer curate the #travelfeed tag. But, you can log in with your Hive account on TravelFeed.io to publish your next travel post, and it will be posted to Hive automatically! Every day, we select the best posts and reward them with an upvote and added visibility.

We would love to see you on TravelFeed.io soon :)
