BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! EARTHQUAKE

in #splinterlands2 years ago

Hello Splinterfam and everyone reading this entry.

The featured Battle Mage Secrets for this week that we will try to uncover is Earthquake. In this ruleset flying monsters reign supreme...well, in most cases...

Having different accompanying rules makes it sometimes hard or impossible to use all those flying monsters at our disposal. In this case, a combination of flying monsters and high powered stat monsters in terms of attacking power is often used.

An example of such a combination will soon unfold your very eyes. Kindly continue reading...

EARTHQUAKE
Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.

Snared units are considered non-flying. Since the damage given is physical, it can be reduced to 1 if the unit has the shield ability.

Using monsters with Flying or Heal is the trick for this ruleset, but if you are unable to choose such monsters, use monsters that have high HP and high damage. Don't keep heal units up front. Shield has a very important role. Using Brighton Bloom as summoner can help in this ruleset. Keep monsters with Flying in last positions when Earthquake has done enough damage to both sides.

I opted to use this summoner because this is the best Dragon Summoner I have at my disposal. It will be used to summon my two flying Dragon monsters which will be very helpful in combat since one of the ruleset forced me to use them. Not doing so will put me at a great disadvantage since that specific ruleset will cause damage to non-flying monsters at the end of each round. Furthermore this summoner can de-buff the enemy monsters with 1speed and 1range attack. It is the speed advantage I'm almost certain that will be very helpful in my upcoming battle.

diemonshark.png
Choosing Dragon Summoner allowed me to pick any availabe splinter which can accompany my Dragon monsters. In this case I used the Water Splinter out of all the other available splinters I can choose from. From there I picked Diemonshark as my Tank since I'm fond of using his Trample ability. This will allow me to give the enemy one extra attack each time it kills any monster from the opposing side. Additionally, Enrage ability is also a fearsome ability. This will increase his attacking power and speed when it is dealt some damaging blow to its health point. Trample paired with Enrage is such a troublesome ability and I'm glad I can use it to my advantage. Its high armor and health points makes it up to the task of being the Tank for this battle.

kulu master.png
I usually pick a melee monster with Reach ability when I'm able to do so. But in this case I have spare mana available to allow me to select this monster which have higher mana cost. Its higher stats makes it a better choice to use as back-up Tank should the enemy be successful in killing-off my main Tank. Its got high amount of health points and Shield: an ability which will reduce the damage it receives from melee and range attack type monsters. It also got the Opportunity ability which makes it a very versatile in targeting the enemy monster with the least health point remaining.

deeplu.png
Also an Opportunity type monster which also makes it very versatile. It's health point is a little low compared to my other attack type monsters but its high attack power and speed makes it an ideal choice to include it in the line-up. This monster will supplement the attacks and damaged caused by my Kulu Mastermind. Most monster will have a hard time surviving after receiving an attack in succession from those two monsters with 4units attack power each. They'd be barely surviving at worst...Having this two monsters in one line-up is like having a powerful combo.

I opted to use this monster to counter the ruleset Earthquake. Having at least one or two flying monsters in the line-up is good enough to win a battle provided the other monsters will do their job in dealing damages to the opponent. It also got the Void ability which is very helpful in facing magic-attack type monsters. Its high health point makes up for its low magic attack power which is quite good enough since in this case I'm only mostly after its Flying and Void ability.

merdaali.png
This is actually the last monster chosen to be included in the line-up. Choosing a high attack type monsters cost me too much of the mana given to me and left me with only few units left. I can either choose another attack type monster but I chose her instead since I can use her ability to heal my Tank. I deemed the attack power of my lineup to be sufficient enough to fight the opponent so I chose a support-type instead. A healer in my line-up will prolong the life of my frontmost monster...provided that it can stay long enough in the battlefield to do its job.

This monster occupies the Last Slot in my line-up but is actually the first monster to be chosen. I love how it creates chaos or wreak havoc among the enemy line-up every time it takes its turn to attack. A maximum of three monsters gets to suffer from its damaging blows due to its Blast ability**. I placed it in the Last Slot following one of the tip or advice given atop with regards to Earthquake ruleset.

As I expected the opponent used flying monsters as majority in his line-up while I only used 2 in mine and mostly focused on choosing high health and powerful attack-type monsters. I took the first strike since my line-up is faster in general thanks to the de-buff my summoner did to the enemy monsters.

It is without doubt that the line-up I deployed in the battlefield is much more powerful and stronger.

During the 1st Round three of my most powerful monsters targeted the enemy's last slot monster. While it's true that Scattershot ability is granted to all monsters taking the battlefield at the start of the match,my two Opportunity type monsters targeted the enemy monster having Taunt ability despite being granted the Scattershot. My take in this is because the two monsters already had an Opportunity, the first ability supercedes the additional ability...in this case, the Scattershot. It is the reason why the Opportunity type monsters attacked the monster with the Taunt ability. Luckily, my Chaos Dragon sets its sight at enemy's Mycelic Slipspawn leaving it barely clinging to life putting it in the same boat as the Tank of the enemy monster.

Before the barrage of attacks started in the 2nd Round the Mycelic Slipspawn was killed in the tremor resulted by the Earthquake. The tremor also caused some damages to my non-flying monsters but I do not worry since I can clearly judge that I still have the upperhand. A moment after the Earthquake the enemy's Tank was immediately killed by my Tank which activated its Trample ability resulting in an attack to the enemy's 2nd Position monster. My Opportunity type monsters attack those that have lower health points in succession which resulted in one more monster from the opponent dying at once. My healer or support monster was also killed in this round in exchange. My attack force was still complete while the opponents has barely enough firepower to duke it out in the succeeding round.

Then the 3rd Round started with yet another monster from the enemy dying-off by an attack from Diemonshark which once again activated its Trample and attack the next monster hitting its armor.
The exchange of blows went on until the end of the current round with only a monster left in the opposing side while I still have my complete attack force although most of them are also badly damaged or beaten both from attacks of the enemy and the Earthquake.

At the start of the final round my Tank was eliminated not by the enemy but by the Earthquake shaking the ground.

Then the barrage of attacks continued until the last monster standing against my line-up was killed which gave me a clean victory...

Truly, using and battling using flying monsters as majority of the line-up in the Earthquake doesn't guarantee you a win as you have just witnessed in the battle. While using them gave an advantage, the line-up should be flexible and must include a high damage-dealing monsters with high health points even though the monsters are flying or not.
