December has started and it's really becoming winter here in The Netherlands. Last Sunday the weather was a bit cold with temperatures around 7°C (45°F), but in the morning it was quite sunny.
I woke up before the rest of the family. We got home pretty late from a family visit the evening before, so I was the only one that got up early.
When I noticed the sun I decided to go for a walk. A winter sun just after sunrise gives a lot of opportunities for some nice shots.
I decided to make a walk to an island that is in a nearby lake. It's an island that is connected to the main land by a small pedestrian bridge.
It's a really small island. There is only a pedestrian bridge, so there are no cars.
The island is popular by hikers. It's partially paved and there is a restaurant where you can get a coffee. There is also a small dock and a beach. The island is also popular among water sports enthusiasts.
As you can see I was not the only one going for a walk there.
When crossing the bridge a boat passed under the bridge.
Most of the island is paved, but a part of the island isn't. It's a part of the island with a lot og nature. It is forbidden to walk in this part of the island during the breeding season in spring.
I like this part of the island since most hikers don't go there because of the muddy paths. That makes it nice an quiet.
And wet and muddy it was. As you can see there were many puddles. Luckily I was wearing my good hiking shoes which, not so surprisingly, got very dirty during the walk.
The island is surrounded by a canal. The shoreline is mostly covered with reed. It's nice to play with the reed and the low hanging sun.
And the island itself also has a lake. The water in that lake is very calm and yo u can often find a lot of ducks, geese, cormorants and other water birds in the lake.
Near the island there is also a windmill. It's actually on the other side of the canal. You can see it from the island when you look over the reed.
On the outskirts of the island there aren't a lot of trees. There is actually one. I tried to compose a shot with a couple of nice colours: the brown bark of the tree, the green grass, the yellow reed and the blue sky.
The water also gives some nice opportunities to play a bit with reflection. The water in the lake on the island is calm, so the reflections are very clear.
I hope you liked my photowalk!
