Based on your own job hunting and work experiences, which do you prefer, working from home as a freelancer, or working outside the home where you get stable monthly pay? Why?
I will start by saying I love and cherish the freedom to work in my own space, which comes with freelancing; as a mom to a little child, it allows me to be available, be here for him, and witness every development as he grows. It allows me to manage my home effectively. Working in my own space is everything I ever wanted.
The challenges; my major freelancing so far has been blogging here on hive, and like every freelancing, the earnings are not constant, it varies from month to month, and for now not even enough for me to live by if I have to. Since I had to puased my main offline business three years ago when I got married and relocated to join my husband in the Northern part of the country, to be very honest, no day goes by that I do not miss physical interaction with my clients, the satisfactory smile on their faces at every successful traction, because I met their needs. Meeting new people, and forming new relationships. I meet people every day online, but I miss that physical interactions.
This is why, I'm working towards going back out there into the business world again, while I'm at this it's going to be side by side with my blogging on hive. I'm planning something that won't require a hundred percent of my presence to function; that way, I can still maintain a large part of my freedom to run my home and still be able to explore other areas of my interest, most especially my blogging here.
I know people who earn massively from their freelancing jobs, they are writers and publishers in Amazon KDP to be precise, they are earning so well that they don't even need to seek employment anymore but even if I could earn that well from freelancing I would still long to go out there where I will be meeting people physically and regularly. I'm still very young, and I feel there is a lot more out there than just working at home behind my keyboard. This is something I have come to realize in my three years of running things from home.
As for working as an employee, it is something I do not see myself doing for now; I have always been more of a business person than an employee unless the job can be very flexible enough in such a way it doesn't take more than sixty percent of my time. And oh, the pay and working conditions would have to be very good as well. To be candid, that is an option that is not available to me for now; I mean, such an option is a bit hard to come by around here. This leaves me freelancing and starting to go back to running my business.
Working as a freelancer comes with the freedom to work in one space and choose how much work one decides to put into it but with the downside of no constant monthly income. Plus the challenges of distractions on the home front and learning how to manage your time effectively for maximum productivity. This is something I've been learning to deal with since my baby came into the picture.
While being an employee, on the other hand, guarantees a constant salary at the end of every payday. And if it's a job that one loves doing that could be very great. At the end of the day, one just has to do some self-assessment and choose an option that works well with their personality and realities. Whatever we are doing or going to choose, my wish is that we find happiness and fulfillment in our choices.
As for me, while I enjoy freelancing from home, I still want to go out there doing something that will not take a hundred percent of my time every day of the month. Because I'm starting to feel that I'm missing out on the outside world hehe.
