Far Cry 6 - The best game of the series? [Let's Play Games #96]

Hello, hello! How do you start the new week? I hope with lots of smiles! 😃

While I promised in my previous game review that I'll return with some thoughts about my experience playing Far Cry 6, guess what? That moment just arrived!

I'll begin by saying that I'm a huge fan of this series and that it's basically in the first position of my preferences along with the Assassin's Creed series, so not only that I have a lot of thoughts to share but I'll also be very critic since I have big expectations when playing a new game from any of my favourite series.

Anyway, while I felt like Far Cry 5 reached the best performance this series could get where you had to save Hope County from Joseph Seed who just was a maniac who mixed his own faith with a little army created to destroy everything, I sort of felt like FC6 will miss the chance to make people have a new favourite game of the series... and I was wrong.

Being a huge fan of both FC3 and FC5 from where I've also had a statue with Joseph Seed and the map printed in a pretty big size, I ended up playing FC6 just from curiosity since I had activated the free trial from Ubisoft Connect that allowed me to try lots of cool games for free. But as soon as I started the game and discovered a new story that sounded quite promising even from the beginning, I knew I've made the right pick to play Far Cry 6.

Anyway, while the place where the main action happens in Watch Dogs series is real (London), we can't say the same thing about Far Cry 6 which even though is created by the same developers, the whole action is held in a fictive country (Yara).

The game begins with a first mission of having to escape from a city that was bombarded but not before you pick your character that is named Dani Rojas but who can be either male or female, depending on your preferences.

Though, not much time passes and after you begin the game you will get a strange mood of being somewhere in South America that not only that it comes with the specific language spoken, but also with the corrupted environment that everyone has to deal with while fighting for a better living.

For me it's been the first time playing a game that is presenting the living in that part of the world but I had a lot of fun while listening to the music that was turning on every time you were driving a car which was only in Spanish, along with some of the characters that were speaking just Spanish. Another cool feature that I found was to have your character singing after the song from the radio when she/he was in a good mood or enjoying the music - yet another thing that I've never found before in a different game.

While the character you are going to play with is just another orphan of Yara that has nothing to lose, Dani Rojas takes his mission of saving the country from Anton Castillo (El Presidente), quite seriously. Now if you think that so far the game is just like the others where we have both good and bad guys, keep in mind that Anton Castillo is 100% interpreted by the actor Giancarlo Esposito from "Breaking Bad" who not only that looks very alike but also uses his voice that will made you feel some shivers going down the spine from time to time.

After you pass the first mission and escape from the whole madness happening in the USA, you will get the desire of joining a guerilla pretty soon which is also where the proper activity in the game begins.

Along with the many people that you will meet on the way who can either join your camp or not, it's very important to make sure you have a solid army before confronting El Presidente that is more protected than you think. Though, talking about a very corrupted regime that made people be rather scared than interested in fighting for a better living anymore, there are many guerillas separated on each side of the country that if you manage to connect with one another, will be the single hope you get to make the country what it was before having a maniac leading Yara.

A quite rare thing met in the games though, is to see that there are members of the family who don't agree very well with what the others do, in this case talking about Diego - the son of El Presidente, who seems a little bit more lucid when it comes to how someone should lead a country. Personally, I enjoyed seeing this aspect because it shows how the one known as the bad guy of the game also can show love and affection, but sooner or later you will realize that madness and selfishness dominate more than anything.

A thing that we shouldn't forget about tho, is that the series maintains its survival/adventure genre where you still have plenty of options to follow in order to set up your perfect gear to use in the game or simply craft items or take your camp to the next level because every single plant or animal you meet on the way, can be useful in a way or another.

Still on the same line we can discuss about the secondary missions that bring lots of unique items and rewards which could make a change be felt in some of the main missions too, making them either easier or harder to be completed. And believe me, sometimes I blamed myself for not taking some of the secondary missions before running in some of the main ones which almost felt impossible to be passed.

So while I was in a time hurry to complete the game before my trial of playing the game for free was expiring, I'd definitely replay the game one day and complete it 100% including all the secondary missions, challenges, and basically every single activity shown on the map.

Along with all these mentioned already, we add a few more activities that you can enjoy in your established camp that can be a lot more fun while listening to a band that sings all kind of music live, taking part in a cockfighting match, playing domino, or even trying to socialize with a tiny dog. Even though there are quite a few animals in the camp that you can interact with, by far the little Chorizo is the icing on the cake despite its little problem of not being like the others but which knows what to ask for when trying to pet him for the first time because it won't be as easy as you think.

Anyway, as soon as you finish completing all the challenges the little one gives you, you will be able to have it as your little companion that, honestly, as much as I'd love to have in my team while fighting with the bad guys, there are plenty of other options to pick from that could come a lot more helpful for you.

image.png

Talking about having a little companion next to you while completing various missions - keep in mind that every single animal has its own skills which can be more or less useful depending on the mission you are about to start, but the single one that you will begin with is Guapo that can do a pretty good job in most of the cases managing to take down a few enemies or at least distract them while you fight with the others.

The other animals from the list can be unlocked only by following other missions and challenges than these included in the main story so the single ones I managed to get in my walkthrough were Guapo and the little Chorizo but I'm sure that any of the other animals would do a pretty good job too as well as maybe make some missions a little bit easier for you to complete. So perhaps complete these before making a pick on the companion you want to have by your side the whole time.

While in all the other Far Cry games you were able to either call for a car, plane or helicopter that could be spawned in specific locations on the map, a quite unique feature is to be able to call a personalized car that will be brought by a driver to your location no matter where you are at which you can fully customize and use further. Not to mention about the options to get a full ammo load from the trunk that is hard to succeed without.

And I know that Ubisoft gives a lot of reasons to players to complain about their releases which are full of bugs or just inspired from the others making the game not so different from the past ones of the series, but personally, it's been one of the rare moments when I didn't get that feeling, but actually forgot about developers and completed the game in just 3-4 days being very curious on what will happen next, which is the feeling everyone should have while playing.

image.png

However, the actual icing on the cake is represented by the two finals of the game that you can enjoy, which most likely only 5% of the players will experience because the game makes you set your mind on finding El Presidente and changing the livings of Yara's people so most likely you will fail to pay attention on small details but only focus on the main mission of the game. Or at least, this is what happened to me.

Anyway, perhaps many of you remember Vaas Montenegro which appeared in Far Cry 3 and made the series be easily remembered for the next quote: "Do you know the definition of insanity?" - which is also what made me fall in love so badly with this series. Though, the game ended quite vague and none of the other games of the series that came up after that one didn't say anything about Vass making everyone think that he was dead and that was it.

Well, if you manage to catch all the 'easter eggs' and discover the secret ending of the game, then you will get to see the beloved maniac being alive who even though he is not saner than you first met him, made me think that the next game of the series will have Vass in the spotlight again, which is very promising and I can't wait for it!

Conclusions 🤔

Even though Far Cry 6 doesn't come with a lot of choices to decide the future of the character you are playing with or things that could turn the whole story in a different direction, the game still does a great job making you become a true explorer and warrior at the same time while experiencing the survival and action genres at the same time that are so specific to the FC series.

I've also mentioned before that it's quite hard to come up with something new in a series that already has quite a few releases making the new one be better than the others... but honestly, Far Cry 6 is amongst these that I can guarantee that it won't disappoint anyone, coming with some unique features but also a cool storyline that will keep you focused and dedicated to the game.

So while corruption is a quite sensitive subject for many countries out there, Far Cry 6 is amongst the most fun games I played in the last few years that managed to share the problem very well without bothering many people, along with delivering strong performances.

Did you play it? 😁

I know that the community of gamers from the chain is quite dedicated to AAA titles so I'm curious about your thoughts on this one or any other game of the Far Cry series. 😊

This looks fantastic. I haven't played any of the Far Cry games before but these graphics are on another level and I love that they got the Pollos Hermanos guy from Breaking Bad it. Amazing actor. Looks like it has a super well-done story and has tons of action. If anything, that cute little dog picture sells me on it too. Animal companions sounds like an interesting game element.

Oh yeah, it's something new to have real actors became part of the game which ended up nicely done for sure!

I love the idea of having a companion too, and I wouldn't mind to have these even just like that, without being useful at anything, but when they even attack and support you during your fights..it's even cooler!

It's interesting how celebrities are entering the video-game sphere -- like Kevin Spacey and Kit Harrington in past Call of Duty entries, Norman Reedus in Kojima's Death Stranding, A$AP Rocky in the new Need For Speed, and others. It's like what was once different spheres -- video games, movies, television, sports, music -- are all starting to mesh.

Yeah, I know what you mean. And personally, I'd never see this coming but it's a great surprise because they bring a touch of authenticity that felt like missing sometimes, isn't it?

Yeah, I would've never guessed that things like video games or anime would become more mainstream. I agree that it does add a bit or a lot of legitimacy to those industries when A-listers like Michael B. Jordan says in an interview that one of his favorite shows growing up was Bleach, or if very recognizable faces like the guy from Breaking Bad or a famous rapper lend their face and music to upcoming games.

No, I can't play it xd, but since its announcement I've always seen it good, in fact, I think FC4/5 are also good even though I haven't played them, maybe this one isn't the best of the best and they put Giancarlo Esposito just to get attention, they didn't get it cheap xd, but anyway, even though I haven't played it and whatever they say, from the outside it has always seemed to me a good game together with FC4/5, except Primal haha, I think I'll look for a comparison between Vaas and Anton to see who is the best villain, I'll be satisfied with that and then I'll go to play FC3 which is the one that is within my reach.

Starting with FC3 is a good start for sure :)

The opinions are always split when it comes to pick the favourite from a series.. you can see that in the previous comments left on this post where someone said that no other game released after Far Cry Primal was better.

But I guess it all depends on the gaming preferences everyone has and what your expectations are from a game. Personally I found something nice in each game of the series but only some of them turned into my favourites, fc6 being one of them for sure :)

I watched the trailers for the game back in the day before it released. After that I kind of forgotten about it.. Such a shame actually I should get around to it.

May I ask what was wrong with Farcry 4 xD Laughs Laughs I never finished it due to pc failures.. However I did enjoy it a lot!

I sort of forgot about this one too even though I was really excited when it was announced. But I've always preferred steam over any other platform even though there are plenty of games that will still start via ubisoft app lol. However I usually wait until ubisoft brings its games on Steam and then try them out but while I had that trial of ubisoft connect that allowed me to play many games for free, I said why not?

There was nothing wrong with fc4, lol, just didn't stand out as some other games of the series did, haha. At least that was my thought. Anyway, I failed completing it as well because my cousin pressed the "new game" button just when I was very close to the end so while it didn't stir me a lot of interest as other games of the series did, I didn't start it again xD

Laughs Laughs.

Not going to lie, I sure as hell ain't gonna start it over now xD

Currently busy with For Honor, a title I wish I played earlier..

And a game I thought was utter crap Albion Online... Which is actually a lot of fun.

Anyways enjoy the gamings

You just remembered me that I own For Honor and still haven't played it, lol. I guess I know what my next completion is going to be! Haha.

Enjoy gaming and have a nice week too! :)

You better try it.... You wont regret it. The game mechanics are amazing... They just sometimes end the mission abruptly, but that's of little concern.

I also heard it doesn't really have a multiplayer player basis anymore... But I am more focused on singleplayers for now xD... except for Albion

This game looks Dope🔥🔥
I do Like the idea of controlling your character play, being immersed in storyline. And the graphics looks great,
Is this game on steam? And does it support use of a gaming pad? I'm still scouting and making a list of games I'd love to play. So far, I've only gotten Valheim.

Great post🔥🔥

No, unfortunately it's not on Steam. That's also my biggest disappointment because I love having my games on Steam library even though they still start via other platforms too... but this one is not on Steam yet.

Though, you can easily find the rest of the series on Steam that comes with some big discounts from time to time, so you might want to try these first and perhaps play the other games of the series until they will add FC6 on Steam as well.

By gaming pad you mean a controller? If you mean a controller then yep, it has support for that but it's still a lot easier to play from keyboard and mouse because it's a shooter game in most of the time 😊

Thank you for reading and stopping by! Hope you have a lovely week!

😉Ah I see. Alright then, well noted. Appreciate the response. Have fun 🎮

From Far Cry Primal onwards, all the games in the franchise have seemed boring and not at all attractive to me, Far Cry 3 and 2 I thought were amazing games, but the rest of the games have completely forgotten what made those games great, they even removed things that were very cool, Ubisoft when they manage to create good games they squeeze them until they make them mediocre.

Far Cry Primal was amongst my favourites of the series and I feel you with the boring releases after that one but I sort of forgot about that feeling ok fc5 and fc6 honestly. Maybe it's just me. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!
