Week on Hive

Hive Fest-related content continued to be dominant this week on Hive, but otherwise things pick up slowly, with quite a low number of news.

x of 14 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

In the Spotlight

Applications Opened to Become One of the SPS Foundation Board Members

In a post from two days ago, @sps.dao officially announced the opened applications for the Chair and 2 board members of the SPS Foundation and its legal fund that, after analyzing different options, will be established as a Panamanian Private Interest Foundation.

The applications start today, September 20th, 8am UTC, and will close in a week. The chosen Chair and Board members will have the duty to sign contracts at the will of the SPS DAO, and will need to KYC with the law firm used and potentially other 3rd parties (like exchanges). There will also be a Treasurer Committee to carry out financial duties.

If you are interested read the announcement carefully.

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

Dash Posts on Hive Again

Following Joel from Dash' invite to HiveFest, both him personally (@thedessertlinux) and the Dash protocol (@dashpay) re-started posting on Hive after a pretty long hiatus. Particularly on Inleo, they wanted to mention, since they also have the common ground and are great supporters of the Maya Protocol.

Governance / Development / Dapps / Education

SPS Validators Development Update

I found this piece of news more suitable to this section rather than the games one.

Based on a recent passed SPS DAO proposal, the funding of the SPS validators was taken over by the SPS DAO from the Splinterlands, the company.

This is the development team's first report and monthly invoice. The report is pretty detailed, if you want to read through it, but I would highlight that they just open-sourced the code, with the mention it is not production ready and they still have work to do on it.

A Couple of Witnesses Got Issues This Week. @edicted Explains What Happened.

The data centers from Sweden and Finland of one - if not the most popular - hosting provider for node operators on Hive got raided by law enforcement. The affected servers hosted VPS, and likely other virtual private servers hosted on the same machine were doing something considered illegal. As edicted remarked in his post, none of our Top 20 witnesses blinked an eye because of this, but it affected a couple of backup witnesses, including his node.

Ecency Describes Decks

In its series to describe diverse elements of the front-end in a simple way, Ecency described this week their Decks page. Check it out if you want to know more.

Hive, Listings, and Whales

The limited number of major listings for Hive prevents some big players to buy in, even if they'd like to. We all know that, but it may be different when they say it themselves.

Games

Holozing Short Update and Coming Zingtober Event

Good to see a busy week on the news side from Holozing.

From their short update, I'd rather quote something from the post that clearly describes the situation much like a summary:

In short, what's left to do in q4:

Metamask, email and other social login options with working referrals.
Private alpha and balancing, then public alpha.
Vial sale and opening of Vials.
More creatures! Profession and gathering implementation.
Further 3d'ing of existing creatures, environment, and healers. (expensive)
Then beta launch! (hopefully with everything 3d'd, but if not then few placeholders)

And then, this morning they announced the Zingtober event and achievements. Artists, pay attention, because this one is for you, because at the basis of the event are ink drawings you must create to participate. Read the announcement to know all the details.

Meetings / Events / Communities

Heath Outreach Initiative in Ghana

Alongside their water boreholes projects, the Hive team often brings into these communities a team of doctors for some free screenings of the locals. This is one of them.

Week in the Crypto World

Fed Cuts Interest Rate by 0.50%

This isn't crypto-related news, but as we've often seen, announcements regarding the interest rate from the Fed influences the markets, and particularly, when rates are cut, that's good news for risk-on assets, like... crypto. And we've seen the positive reaction to this, particularly to the 0.50% cut instead of 0.25% that many were anticipating.

Thanks for the shout-out! Yes we're here to stay.

Glad to hear that! I'll keep an eye on what you guys are doing.

I’m trying to follow up with Holozing
Will surely be a nice game

Exciting week on the rate cut, it's about time. We shall see how the SPS progresses.

The new Ecency sounds interesting, I can't wait to dive in and check it out.

Yes, I think many would have liked that to come sooner.

We shall see how the SPS progresses.

At least now we'll know from the monthly reports and those who want to check the code can see for themselves.

Decks is not new for Ecency. Although people who don't use the interface frequently may not have heard of it. This series of posts from them describes different parts of their interface, new or existing. Good for newcomers, to have a piece of documentation to be pointed at.

I didn't even realize that some witness had server issues. Then again, the feds getting involved was bound to happen every now and then. I am glad that the blockchain didn't really have many issues despite that happening.

It helped that the witnesses that were affected were all backup witnesses, so their turn in rotation came less frequently. They were pretty high in the ranking though, and it is probably good they lost some votes temporarily, until they resolved their situation.

I realized how little even HIVE users know about https://leodex.io and many other DAPPs we have. Our users are unaware about some of the best parts of our ecosystem. We most certainly need more marketing and partnerships both in and outside of HIVE.

Unfortunately, there is quite a lot of tribalism in crypto, and in Hive. In some cases, it's simply focused attention to a front-end and its communities, but that may deprive us of seeing the bigger picture.
