In the Spotlight
All Eyes on DHF Proposals, for a Change
Controversy draws attention. That's a great thing for the well-being of the DHF Proposal System and Hive, in general, right?
The Splinterlands' DHF proposal surely generated public and sometimes heated or acid debates at all levels and positioning either pro or against it.
I support the proposal and believe Splinterlands and its team earned the right to ask for these money for any Splinterlands/Hive-related purpose they see fit. They walk on thin ice and they know it. It's not like they'll have many more chances to turn this boat around, so I don't think they'll start to throw with money left and right, particularly since I believe Matt made it clear he is conservative regarding business management by comparison with Aggroed. I think most users who wanted to vote for the Splinterlands proposal already did. It seems a whale political game now.
After some onchain "ping pongs" at the high level regarding the support of the Splinterlands proposal (between Aggroed and a few top witnesses), Matt came with a follow-up which may or may not have clarified things.
The Splinterlands proposal went from not-funded to funded and not-funded again, as various interests aligned or not... I'm guessing there are some private negotiations right now that will determine if the proposal will eventually pass or not. I hope the private negotiations (if there are any) are better carried out than the public shaming posts.
Another series of DHF proposals that sometimes generate passions is the Value Plan ones. The 3-people team managing Value Plan actively (congrats @lordbutterfly for the new role and... do a great job! 😀) asked for an additional 150k HBD for Value Plan (and received it).
Marketing / Awareness / Branding
Hive at Blockchain Rio
Blockchain Rio is the largest conference in South America, with over 300 speakers.
Hive will be there with 5 team members. @arlettemsalase will deliver a keynote presentation, and both she and @starkerz will be on panels.
A little more information on the post of the official Hive account.
INLEO After 5 Years
At the beginning of this month (July 3rd), INLEO (formerly known as Leofinance, and before as St**mLeo) turned 5. Late "Happy Anniversary" to them!
This week @khaleelkazi wrote a post describing their Vision for the Future of the LEO Token Economy.
The INLEO team is also slowly building strong ties outside Hive. Khal will likely participate to the Rare Evo event in Las Vegas with the Maya and Thorchain teams (he mentioned he was 95% sure of the participation about a week ago, so not sure if anything changed in between). He was there last year with the Hive team too, if I remember well. He will also be a speaker at Hivefest in Croatia this year.
He also invited Simon Harman (@SimonAHarman on X), founder of ChainFlip, to his weekly show Chain Chatter. ChainFlip is one of the next chains Khal wants to integrate into LeoDex.
Road to Hivefest with Vaultec, VSC's Founder
This is the second X space in what may become a series leading to Hivefest 2024 in Split, Croatia. @lordbutterfly invited @vaultec to talk about the VSC project and what may be ready by Hivefest. Particularly if you are not familiar with the project, it's a good talk to listen to.
A Bitcoin OG at HivesNest Who Knows a Little Bit About Hive
I started to appreciate these HivesNest interviews that @starkerz and @theycallmedan have going, often with interesting characters from the Bitcoin world, many of whom are quite Bitcoin-centric.
It's interesting the new HivesNest... where Hive's name is rarely if ever mentioned (other than in the name of the show, lol), and they practically wait for the guests to ask how are they doing things... and still don't mention Hive.
This may be an experiment to see if there is an automatic negative feedback coming when the name is mentioned (from a bitcoiner's perspective, a shitcoin ranked between 300 and 400) or to the ideas that we stand for.
But generally, the interviews are mostly about the people being interviewed and what they are doing or their thoughts about the market, future, etc.
There was an entire series of interviews from Talent Land, probably the one in Mexico, not the recently ended one in Málaga, Spain. This one is with Jose Luis, a Bitcoin OG who probably knows more about Hive than the majority of Bitcoin whales and seemed interested to learn more.
Governance / Development / Dapps / Education
Mahdiyari's Plans
In a post where Mahdi Yari (top witness on Hive) announced the community why his HAF/HafSQL node wasn't working (at that time), @mahdiyari also described some of his plans for the future. Among them, a relatively basic "For You" content discovery algorithm for Hive to allow older content to capture attention more than a couple of hours. Sounds like what INLEO is working on, but for the Hive blog or any interested front end, maybe?
He also mentions further potential future work on additional or improved APIs for filtering and sorting content.
BroFund Launched Gifu
GIFU is a token on BSC launched by @brofund this week. They seem to have plans to develop a GIF platform down the road, but Raymond admitted GIFU is currently a meme coin. Which some may love... You'll find the litepaper in there.
Shortly after that, @thelogicaldude offered GIFU a listing on his cross-EVM based DEX, LogicSwap. More details about LogicSwap and listing from his post.
Games
Achievements on Holozing
Achievements are the first soulbound NFTs on Holozing, and the basis for the distribution of collection rewards, until more collectibles are released. The first achievement is based on the number of days of login claims for the Advent Calendar during December last year. Here's the announcement.
Development of Ragnarok Game Continues
The development of Ragnarok continues after the announcement was made that @simplegame's team took over game development. Great to see some movement on this front!
Hive Philanthropy
Hive Borehole 16 Launched
Hive Empowers Communities completed and launched the 16th Hive-funded borehole in the Northern part of Ghana, which is capable of serving 2000 people a day.
Week in the Crypto World
Is the Ethereum Foundation Moving Large Amounts of ETH? They deny it.
I thought I should write about this instead of the Ethereum ETFs starting trading this week which has been covered everywhere, including on my blog.
92500 ETH, roughly amounting to 300m USD now, was moved these days, 7 years after being received in an unknown wallet from the Ethereum Foundation. First of all, is this Ethereum Foundation's or someone else's wallet? What seems well documented is that the amount comes from a slightly bigger amount being transferred from the Ethereum Foundation to this wallet 7 years ago without any memo. Either way, people are curious about the destination of these funds and who is behind them. They can ask, but when it's a centralized entity disposing of the funds, decision is not in their hands, even if they don't like where those ETH are going.
This is what was known yesterday.
Tiny Bitcoin Miners Almost Never Beat the Odds. This One Did.
A 500 Gh/s hand-sized Bitcoin mining device was able to earn a full Bitcoin block reward, worth over 200k USD. That's a 1 in 1.1 billion odds. For this lucky miner there are countless others that try in vain.
But as a success story to feed the hope of the small and tiny miners that their luck will turn, this is great. Unrealistic, but it helps keep bitcoin mining closer to the regular people's interests, when it is mostly suited only for mega-businesses now, or at best pools with hashrate added from all contributors and reward split. You can read more here.
