In the Spotlight

New Releases in the Splinterlands Ecosystem

None of the news are related to the Splinterlands game itself, but it probably helps using this title to better identify the general realm they refer to, even if we are now talking about different companies or game styles.

SoulKeep Has Been Released!

The tower defense game that was originally supposed to be Splinterlands' was launch on Tuesday, during the regular Splinterlands maintenance window.

That is because SoulKeep is still highly interconnected with the Splinterlands platform, despite being developed and now owned by Double Coconut.

Marketplace for the game is supported on the Splinterlands website, as is the menu to launch the game. Blockchain integration and tokenomics was handled by the Splinterlands team, while Double Coconut takes care of the rest.

Credits (importable from Splinterlands balance) and DEC can be used to buy tournament entries, which are the only way to be rewarded in the game, as far as I know.

The game itself is playable without buying anything: no tournament entries and no cards or packs. While I do have some Nightmare packs, I haven't opened any of them yet, but I still battled through the maps.

From my understanding, although I haven't read through the whitepaper yet, common towers, spells, and traps are available to play in solo mode (not in tournaments).

I see there are still discussions regarding the way SPS rewards will be distributed.

What I know is that on the 25th I still received SPS for holding Nightmare packs. I don't know if anything happened in this regard when the game launched or if these discussions would change anything, so I'm holding, for now. As long as I'm having fun playing the game as is, I can even ignore the little SPS I earned by holding the packs.

Moonkarts' Packs Can Be Opened

The first game on Arcade Colony, Moonkarts, also had an announcement this week.

CENTAURI packs can now be opened to find drivers, karts, tech, powerups, or accessories.

The cards are of various rarities (similar to Splinterlands) and foils, and can be combined.

The game is playable in solo mode with or without owning any cards. Rewards can be earned in multiplayer games only. I'm not sure if multiplayer isn't working yet or there was a game liquidity issue when I tried it.

Either way, I like both games.

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

Chain Chatter with VSC Network

@vaultec joined Khal at Chain Chatter to talk about the status of their development to VSC Network and what it means for Hive, and also about the Bitcoin wrapping component they've been working on (which includes a DEX). Looks like we might have the latter in production for Hivefest.

Governance / Development / Dapps

Open Polls Protocol... Future Updates

The results of Open Polls may soon be interpreted based on holdings and stake of Hive-Engine tokens. Staked SPS will follow.

SPK Network - Meta Data Proposal

This proposal is more oriented toward developers interested in working in or with the SPK Network. @disregardfiat considers a standard way of defining meta data and inclusions for SPK would help front ends integrate them, even if they present them in different ways. He awaits feedback on his proposal too.

Clive Added Alarm Management

Alarms are a sort of warnings of potentially dangerous activities that are going on with your account or the accounts you watch. They can be ignored once acknowledged. See what actions trigger alarms in Clive here.

Hive Cuba P2P Exchange Updates

Before HiveCubaCon (which will be in August), the @hivecuba community shows some stats about the usage of their P2P bot, which is the only way to exchange HBD <-> Cuban Peso without KYC in Cuba. They also mention there will be some updates to the bot. Here are the details.

Games

WOO Added Rewards

As the announcement says:

The biggest news: $WOO rewards are now fully live and claimable. The full game loop is online: play matches win $WOO, use $WOO to upgrade your Organization, land, and more. $WOO use cases will grow with the game, especially as wrestler injuries start to impact gameplay.

That's pretty important news for WOO. To be honest, I almost ignored it thinking it's all about contests, raffles, and prizes.

They also added a delegation feature, remaining to make it whole by introducing renting... soon.

HoloZing News

A new creature was revealed for HoloZing. The first bug and poison type creature in the game.

Also, the team quietly dropped some soul-bound achievement NFTs to certain healers. which aren't displayed on the website yet. They haven't disclosed anything else for now.

They are also discussing to increase the HP delegation and staking rewards to match the LP rewards.

Here are all the details.

Meetings / Events / Communities

Having Fun with Hive in Vienna Every Month

Looks like a couple of friends (I'm imagining by now), are having fun with monthly Hive meetups in Vienna. These meetups are announced, and I suppose anyone is welcome to drop by. This happened this month.

Week in the Crypto World

The News of the Week: Julian Assange Became a Free Man Again

The co-founder of Wikileaks and one of the earliest people involved in Bitcoin got freed from prison! Let's remark some details: this happens during an electoral year. That didn't happen until he pleaded guilty to the espionage charge. Even when freed, they made an example out of him for his audacity to pull the curtain on their shady businesses. Interestingly, he was... forced to take a private jet costing over 500k USD home, instead of commercial airlines. Funds were raised to pay for this cost. I wonder why was this mean of travel and especially this cost forced on him?

I think the Nightmare pack staking rewards stopped when the gameplay came online. It was transferred to the game rewards, which is what is being contested now.

That may be logical. But when I looked at the history of claimed SPS rewards, it didn't seem like they were coming in every day. Or maybe that only shows when I claim, not when they actually come in? Whatever...

A lot of people are getting interested in the Soulkeep game. I’ve even seen someone get to the second level.
I learnt they earn SPS from it too…

I went to the second league too. But only played a bit there.

Haven't played in tournaments where SPS can be earned yet.

Soulkeep is looking like a game I’d love to play
I love the things I’m seeing and hearing about it…

Personally, I love it. I'm worried I'd spend too much time playing it if I go too deep, lol.

It's been a long time since he's been held, I bet no a lot of people actually remembers him, until the news of his release. My question now is, what next for him? Paying such huge amount to be transported feels like a lot of these are going to keep happening

I doubt he will be the same Assange as before. They know how to break a person. It's harder to break many, but one, it's quite easy.

You're right, he's been there for such a long time. Let's see how it goes

I am glad to see that Soulkeep came out. The SPS rewards stopped for holding packs might help us earn more SPS in the game but who knows.

I think it's great to see Julian Assange is free, but I guess for safety, he went the private jet route. I don't think it's that safe to go through public airports because of how high profile he is.

Are you sure they stopped? I checked the history, and they didn't seem to come in every day before the game was released. Or maybe I missed them.

I thought about safety... But in the article I linked, they say he was forced to take and pay for the private jet.

I thought that the SPS stopped after Soulkeep released. I think that was the plan but I could be wrong.

Yes, they did. Wasn't clear at the time what happened. That was the plan, but with all the proposals and counter-proposals, I got confused, lol.
