Week on Hive
9 of 23 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.
Looks like we have a quieter time on Hive, kind of in tone with the general crypto market. Everyone is waiting for the uptrend, I suppose. And on Hive, for the (pre) HiveFest period too, which is usually busy in announcements.
In the Spotlight
Mega Tournament on the Occasion of Splinterlands' 6-Year Anniversary
The Splinterlands team is organizing a mega tournament today, May 31st. Here are the details:
Note that you need to have passed through KYC with Splinterlands to participate. This is an Open tournament and all sets are allowed, which means you will have access to all cards at max level, regardless of what you have in your collection. It is free to participate and it is an Anytime tournament, meaning multiple 24-long rounds when you have time to submit your teams.
Here's the official announcement.
Good luck if you participate! And happy birthday to Splinterlands.
Marketing / Awareness / Branding
INLEO & CENT Cooperation
Cross-community collaborations have been proven to work in time. I haven't heard of many such attempts recently on Hive, despite communities being a central part of the ecosystem.
Actually, I lie. @lordbutterfly has done several such collaborations for VIBES, with communities or influencers outside our ecosystem.
The integration of LEO on Arbitrum and Maya, and then, their integration of SPS and DEC on LeoDex should be considered the biggest such examples of cooperation recently.
And now, INLEO and CENT began a smaller-scale (compared to the ones mentioned above) cooperation on Hive, as announced by @anadolu from the Cent community on his blog.
Not many tribes, as they used to be known on Hive-Engine, are still around, active, and with plans for the future. Cent seems to be one of the resilient ones, and that is good to see.
Governance / Development / Dapps
SPK Network - Another Presentation
Work on SPK Network has been so long that many newcomers (and possibly some of the less active old users on Hive) probably don't know what this is about. That's why, a concise overall presentation of the entire project is a good reminder.
Clive Updates
Recurrent transfers and claiming new account tokens have been added to the command line interface (CLI). Everything is described in their update post.
Games
Rise of the Pixels Updates
RotP added factions, which may be changed after a 5-day cooldown. This seems to have a connection with staking and LP rewards that were also added to the game. Here are more details.
Prefix Titles in Splinterlands
Prefix titles made their appearance to the game. They are part of what was once called "Land 1.6", and give some reward share boost in Ranked to land owners. They were discussed in the Town Hall.
Meetings / Events / Communities
@ManuPhotos Lays Out Some Plans / Ideas For Hive Cuba
In his post, Manu discusses various aspects regarding the Cuban community, and asks for feedback.
He starts by showing that only a small part of their community votes for @hivecuba witness and encourages the rest to do it.
Then he lays out plans to improve their p2p bot, asks if they should have their own front end for the HiveCuba community, discusses the need to improve their Web 2 presence, asks the community if a shop with Hive Cuba merch would be useful, and speaks of a potential space where to buy and sell products with HBD. And finally, he is looking for volunteers for HiveCubaCon, the Cuban (yearly?) conference.
By all the things he discussed in this post, it's no wonder the Cuban community is one of the fastest growing on Hive.
HIVEED: Perfect Example of Non-Traditional Education
@danielvehe published this week two posts related to HIVEED (HIVE EDucation), the ValuePlan-funded full course in one of the high schools of Venezuela, taught by Daniel himself.
Well, these two moments he shared were not with him teaching his students something, or them debating a topic, but different things.
In one situation, one can watch the presentation of Roberto Hung to the HIVEED class, him being a lawyer who shares the point of view that when "society reaches the courts, the law has failed". He is also a known speaker at conferences in that part of the world, it seems.
In another situation, the HIVEED classes hosted a Phygital Games tournament, which is an interesting combination of digital games and physical sports.
Week in the Crypto World
Talent Land in Málaga, Spain, in July
After its extraordinary success in Mexico, Talent Land is branching out to Spain. It will be held between 3-5 July 2024, in Málaga. They are expecting an assistance of 10k, 150 speakers and more. @josepimpo made the announcement. I assume he is one of the organizers, as he was for the one in Mexico from Guadalajara from this year. If you want to see him in an interview from the Talent Land in Guadalajara with @starkerz, here he is.
While Eyes Were on Ethereum, Bitcoin ETFs Hit New Milestones
Michael Saylor was quick to remark that "32 spot ETFs now hold ~1 Nakamoto of $ BTC", meaning roughly 1m BTC.
That's about 5% of the current circulating supply of Bitcoin held by the 32 ETFs combined in only a few months of operation.
In the meantime, BlackRock's IBIT surpassed Grayscale's GBTC to become the largest spot Bitcoin ETF in the world. While IBIT is on the rise, GBTC has been on a continuous downtrend, probably favored by its high fee compared to the competitors.
