The occupiers appeared in the village of Yahidne, Chernihiv region, from the first day of the war, setting up their headquarters in the village.
About 400 locals were taken prisoner.
People were forced to sit in the dark, cramped and unventilated basement of the local school almost all the time.
At this time, the Russian occupiers were actively looting local homes in search of valuables. They robbed household appliances and even linen.
Sometimes people could cook for themselves on the fire.
Not everyone was able to survive in such conditions and 11 people died in the basement without enduring inhumane living conditions.
Eyewitnesses claim that it was not cold in the basement, but on the contrary it was hot, because there were hundreds of people in the small room around the clock.
Suffocation, moaning, crying children, uncertainty, hunger and fear - this is what many Ukrainians had to face in the occupation due to the "Russian peace”.
