Hey guys
My wife watched Blonde yesterday. I asked her to give me her opinion about the movie so that i can decide to see it or not as its the movie of the week.
The film tells in the loosest sense of the term the life of Marilyn Monroe (it's based on the Joyce Carol Oats book so you can't exactly call it a biography), it had a lot of inaccuracies about her life, her relationships and the way she grew up.
However, if one can get past some cringe scenes (of which there are quite a few) and manage to get to the middle the film pays off. It's a literal dive into Merilyn's chaotic mind. The trauma created by her childhood, the abuses, her need to find a paternal presence in all her relationships and for me the most masterful of all is the difference between Marilyn Monroe the persona and Norma Jean. Where one wanted celebrity, the other wanted to be an artist who was taken seriously. The persona and the man behind it.
Anna de Armas was amazing in this role, where at times I thought I was actually seeing Marilyn even though they look nothing alike. She managed to convey both the Nazi, her sexiness and her intelligence.
She thinks she could talk for hours about the movie, but she wouldnt because she was afraid she will spoil it. It's a difficult film to watch both for the issues it deals with and for several changes from color to black and white and she could say that somewhere in the middle she got really bored and tired but luckily gave it a chance. The messages she sends are excellent, there is a rough way in which some situations from her life are dealt with but I think it was done on purpose to show how difficult and painful it was for a woman to work in Hollywood at that time. How much disdain they were treated with, especially at Monroe's level of celebrity.
Well i thing i have to create an account for her just to post her opinion about every movie she watches and get some Hive-Hbd in the process
