Giving Life a Second Chance: The Need for Organ Donation Reform

"The healthy don't know how wealthy they are" This is a quote I saw on the reception wall of a hospital I visited some years back, and it got me pondering, I truly didn't understand that quote not until I had a cousin in critical health condition, one of her organs failed, sadly we lost her, it's so heartbreaking relieving what we as a family had to go through watching my beloved young cousin get bedridden by such painful sickness, even though we tried the best we could, even got support from some hivers here, but still felt helpless, because there was nothing that could reverse the damage on the organ unless a transplant.

Hmm, so many young lives have been lost both young and old due to this very reason, and especially due to the unavailability or high cost involved in getting a donor, with that experience, I would certainly be in support if the government were to decree a compulsory donation of healthy organs from the recently deceased, as long as the organs aren't useful anymore to the deceased and would help a lot of sick people with organs failure, who might still have a second chance to live if they were transplanted with these organs, as making it a decree, means there won't be a scarcity of these organs as it is now, as many people alive are still not open to these ideas and taking the organs from a healthy deceased fellow should be more conceding.

Also, the availability of these organs should help reduce the visit of finding a living donor, as other costs involved, no one has to give up on life when faced with such conditions due to lack of money, and I believe in one way or another, everyone would benefit, because, it might not be you, but a friend or loved one faced with such wouldn't have to be gone too soon.

As it is with most things in life, especially in a country like mine where corruption, greed, and favoritism are still the order of the day, I believe the people in power would still end up taking advantage of this decree, it is expected to see the wealthy ones being put at the front line to receive these organs, even when there are critical conditions that needs to be attended to first, but don't have the connections and money to pay their way up to the line, and the whole reason the decree was made would be fruitless.

Also, living in a country that has some weirdos who believe that human parts can fetch them money, they call it a "money ritual" Maybe they would reduce the killing of humans, but diverting to the ones gotten through the government decree isn't a solution either, I just wish we were as advanced as the developed countries to know the importance of life and why certain things shouldn't be taken advantage of, especially when it involves life.

If eventually, we reach that point in life, then I have no problem following such a rule, not because of the punishment that might be involved if not followed but because I know what it feels like to lose someone who would have had a chance at life, if things were in a better position and someone out there is still in need.

Sort:

My dear, our system is just so corrupt that the rich just looks for a way of advantage. Am not in for this at all because I know my government very well and won't give a chance

It's so sad, but this is our reality, I understand
