I've been dedicated to fostering the Czech community on Hive for over six years. I know firsthand how succeeding here on Hive can be difficult for non-native English speakers. And I would like to back those who strive to nurture their communities. I annually host literary contests for the Czechs, and I'm keen on extending similar ones across Hive by offering 200 HIVE to fund the prizes. Please read on for the details.
The Contest
The goal is to encourage quality content created exclusively for Hive. To get a sense of the specifics, please check the most recent set of rules. Any machine translation should make the rules understandable. They are not carved in stone, you're free to adapt them to fit your locale specifics. However, the contest should stick to promoting quality content in one's native language. That said, native English speakers won't be eligible. This might seem unfair, but I believe they already have ample opportunities for success within various Hive communities.
The contest consists of two rounds. For many communities, the challenging part might be the need for a dedicated promoter—someone capable of assessing entries, offering insightful feedback to participants, and shortlisting entries for the concluding round. A sample of a first-round evaluation is here.
In the final round, every active community member is eligible to vote. Every vote carries equal weight, irrespective of the voter's Hive power. We operate on a transparent principle: anyone who's ever published a post within our community can vote in this contest. In the end, three out of the top four or five finalists receive a portion of the prize. New users are welcome to both participate and vote, which makes the contest an interesting onboarding initiative given the substantial prize.
The Promoter
Consider this post a call for potential promoters. What do I expect from them?
- Must be a native speaker of the language.
- Should be a renowned member of the national community.
- Needs to have a demonstrated background in creative writing (outside of Hive) and/or a relevant academic foundation (like a degree in literature or being a first-language teacher).
- Must be able and willing to provide meaningful feedback to all participants. (Proof of this capability might be requested on a random post within the applicant's community.)
Please note that the promoter is a volunteer. The only reward will come from the contest-related posts. The money is meant exclusively for the winners.
Please be aware that I might want to chitchat with you in English, most likely on Discord.
At this moment, I am ready to support one national contest. If there’s more than one relevant promoter applying, I will choose the most suitable one. However, I could support more such contests if this one proves to be a thing.
