Was the center of Elvas built hundreds of years ago?

I am amazed by the fact that the center of Elvas is built of stone!

The world I live in has had a shortage of stone since ancient times, so cities were built with wood.

The lifespan of houses built of wood is very short. So, I guessed that the center of Elvas, built of stone, was built hundreds of years ago!

I find it amazing that the Portuguese built their cities out of stone!
