I've been watching a lot of action-thriller movies over the past few weeks, so I made the decision to put myself in the "anti-romantic" movie mindset.
For this review, I'd like to give my honest assessment of the films, which should be a clear indicator of how I feel about them.
I had previously been interested in a lot of romantic films, but I felt like I needed a break from all the love and passion, so I decided it was time to return to my action series.
Here are my reviews of my top favorite TV shows from the previous four weeks:
One of the most stunning historical films, The Last Kingdom shares a very specific theme with Game of Thrones but has a very different storyline. Whereas in Game of Thrones, the conflict was between seven kingdoms.
In The Last Kingdom, it was between the pagan Danes and Christian Saxons, illustrating a divide based on religion and opposing viewpoints for the kingdoms of Wessex, Mercia, London, East Anglia and up North to Northumbria.
The entire plot revolves around the main character, Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), a Christian Saxon by birth who was set to inherit the Kingdom of Northumbria (a Christian Saxon-controlled village in the north).
However, as fate would have it, the kingdom was attacked by Pagan Danes, which resulted in the death of Uhtred's Father and was also caused by betrayal by his Brother (Uhtred's Uncle).
Uhtred was the real-life example of how a united kingdom of Danes and Saxons living together can coexist, and he was going to help King Alfred realize his dreams of a last kingdom.
King Alfred was the King of Wessex, the stronghold of Christian Saxons, and Uhtred's fate marked the beginning of the implementation of his vision.
The Episodes reveals a conflicted reality about how much we seek power through violence while being misled by religion, culture, and ideals. Uhtred always seems to draw conflict to himself.
He assisted King Alfred in subduing the Danes, and the Danes nicknamed him "Dane Slayer" because of how well he did it. Battling for silver blinded the Danes, whilst battling for faith and "purification of the land" motivated the Saxons.
The film is divided into five astounding episodes that focus on pain, war, betrayal, dishonesty, religion, bargains, greed, and power. The romance in the film was noteworthy and excellent, but Uhtred's failure was to find true love and happiness because his lovers appeared to have passed away swiftly. Nevertheless, the struggle for dominance and each character's selfish motives made the film unforgettable.
MY RATINGS WOULD BE 8/10
The second movie I watched was The Shooter. If you enjoy military dramas and are especially fond of snipers and security intelligence, this is one of the best shows to watch.
This film is based on a former US marine who is the best sniper in the world with over 350 kills with his rifle. He decides to retire from active duty to focus on his family.
But his former captain Isaac, who served with him for three tours but is now in the secret service, approaches him for a security analysis to help prevent a potential assassination of the President of the United States of America, who was accompanied by the President of Ukraine.
Bob Lee Swagger is the world best sniper who mapped out the likelihood of how the "sniper" might decide to kill the president but it was a setup to make Bob Lee Swagger look like he took the shot.
The attempt to bury the allegations on Bob made him to find those who are after framing him up and he executed the plan to implicate those after his life and family with a help from an FBI agent Nadine who felt unmoved by the fact that Bob would kill the President
The Shooter series demonstrates how the U.S. government was founded on falsehoods and scandals, operating a clandestine syndicate to dominate all spheres of the government and the world, and staging major catastrophes and events to alter the course of affairs in both the nation and the rest of the world.
However, it was fate that brought back Bob Lee Swagger to completely kill the cartel by executing them when necessary and ensuring that their plots would fail thanks to Bob Lee Swagger and friends who diligently made sure they got to the heart of this cartel.
They did so only to discover that his deceased father was one of the founding fathers but opted out when he could no longer kill his conscience.
MY RATINGS WOULD BE 9/10
The stunning Citadel is currently at the top of the list of TV shows to watch. It is on track to be one of the best shows of 2023 and redefine how we can now have TV series of spy action movies, much like we had 007 as movies, but it is now a unique espionage action series.
The best thing about watching spy movies is realizing that they focus on a team of spies who have dedicated their lives to upholding global order in the world.
However, the film begins in the most romantic way possible when I first saw my soul mate, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who plays the role of Nadia, a top spy who boards a train to stop a trader in radioactive elements with her spy partner Richard Madden.
The bomb was detonated, leading people to believe that the agents were dead, only for both of them to reappear years later with no memory of their previous existences. A former agent was assigned to them and used them to revive the citadel group and resume their operations.
The battle is ongoing as we wait to see the potential outcome, but this is unquestionably the most gorgeous beginning to a spy film that I have seen since 007 between the citadel spies and the United Kingdom ambassador to the United States, who will stop at nothing to ensure that the spies are eliminated from the face of the earth.
MY RATINGS WOULD BE 10/10.
