Sam and the Sea - Horses [Premiere]

in #music2 years ago

We're delighted to introduce you to the new track from Sam and the Sea. It's called Horses, and will be released tomorrow on Painted Halo Records. Until then you can catch a sneak preview below.

It's a hynotic track, with a lofi beat and a bass that propels you forward, sounding very much like lofi 80's indie pop, with a repetitive melodic, bluesy guitar passage, journeying through the first half of the track. Later we're introduced to a mellow vocal that takes through the second half of the track. It's raw, yet delicate, and haunting...

When I was six years old and again when I was seven my mother and stepfather brought me for months-long trips to the big island of Hawaii. They were having trouble in their marriage and wanted a reset for themselves. I was taken out of school in the winter both years and the second year we stayed in a cottage next to a field with two horses out to pasture. Every morning it would rain and after I would go to the field to spend time with the horses. I have often thought of that trip. Much later when writing this song I pressed the large stone of years-long misery up against the freedom of my eventual death, or the end of my last connection to other living people, found tolerable alone at the edge of the land, in a volcanic world of grass and horses.

@tipu curate

It's a lovely track, almost Shoegaze in it's approach...
