Fellow Scholars and Scribes! I bid you welcome to the third annual SCRIBE SPOTLIGHT! π mosh pit ensues π
Each year we take a month to celebrate and commemorate our most diligent and talented authors. πΊ
All quotes in this showcase are from the spotlighted creator's works.
Our next spotlight is on a burgeoning Scribe who has greatly improved since her first visit. One of the people I've had the privilege of watching them grow and blossom into an author. Her style is her own, and her body of work speaks for itself. Gather round everyone, for I bring to you... π₯π₯π₯
π kei2 π
@kei2 is a fantasy lover through and through. A Scribe after my own heart - you see, that was my gateway into literature as well. However, fantasy, which solely relies on the 'rule of cool,' can only go so far. Kei understood this and started making her characters more complex, and her plots more detailed. She has become a deft Scribe and I am honored to have seen her mature as a writer. πππ
Yes, she has been a bit absent of late, but that doesn't devalue the body of work she has contributed. This community is about growth, and improving your craft. The path we take is different for everyone. I am just grateful to have seen Kei flourish. Never stop improving! π
The first work we're taking a look at is called The Ritual. The key aspect of this piece I wanted to focus on was intentionality. It is very easy for a writer to get 'lost in the sauce'. Put in too much spice and what you're cooking might end up unpalatable. That is no longer a problem with @kei2's work.
Those who have followed her journey can tell that the way she does world-building now displays confidence in her style and craft. It is seamlessly integrated with the plot and the pivotal action happening in the story. This is even harder to accomplish when writing a short story, and Kei has managed it beautifully. As someone who is struggling with this myself, I might ask for some pointers. π
βLah de vushka! Lah de vushka!β Nino chanted inaudibly as his voice trembled with the sound of rumbling. The ground shook and the wind began to bellow. Torn pages of the old worn-out book in his hand began flying in the air. Nino staggered two feet backward as streaks of lightning lined the dark graveyard sky.
And then there's Whimsy Lane. A much more light-hearted tale than the previous one we covered. Showcasing Kei's range in tone and topic. Another thing I want to comment on is her word choice. I always feel like it suits the setting she is in, which I appreciate greatly. I've read too many fantasy novels that sound modern. I personally dislike that.
Shai looked to her right again before a moving truck distorted her view. The girl she saw made quite an impression on her. She looked very familiar and Shai could have sworn that she'd seen her before. Her hair was tied in two ponytails with a red band. Her thick multicolored socks drawn to her knees beneath a black pinafore dress made her look a little strange and out of place.
@kei2's work is a blast. You owe it to yourself to give it a try. I hope she returns to her prolific ways someday, but it's okay if she doesn't. Life takes us in different ways, and we each deal with it as we must. There's only one certainty - ourselves. And Kei has proven that she is capable of substantial growth and evolution. Not much more anyone can ask for. I thank her for sharing this journey with our community and wish her the best of luck with her endeavors. π
