I remember one time in my childhood when I used to sit every 8:40 PM to watch the main TV news from Brazil called "Jornal Nacional" or "National News" in English, in addition to Sundays always watching "Fantastico" or "Fantastic" in English. These are probably the main popular News on the TV schedule, probably they are still. They focus a lot on local Brazilian news but also bring international news. They are from the same channel, called Globo, and like many different types of TV stations. They have their own interpretation of the news and despite their say that they are neutral, they have their own interests and interpretations about a topic.
We can go to a more local perspective to understand a problem that it can cause. My wife got a case that was suing the TV station. A woman was being accused of killing her own child. The channel showed a perspective that was already condemning the mother for killing the child. She was seen as a villain of course by all population. In the justice, it was proved that she didn't kill the child and that the child died of health problems. Even if not guilty, the woman still suffers nowadays with her image, since some people still remember the case and still associate her with a murder.
That is one case that affects a specific person's life that in theory isn't famous, or wasn't until the case. But imagine now an important news condemning a famous person, like an artist, or a politician. I don't like politicians, but TV channels always pick their side during the elections. The population can't see that and they choose their side many times. That also happens during wars. There is always the poor against the devil. TV channels and newspapers are the main guilty of how information comes to the people and they always had a big part of the guilt in polarizing the population, which got worse with social media.
How to manage and understand what is a reality concerning a reported event in the world or local community? It is difficult and I will be frank that I went through the wrong way many times. But first point is to understand that the world isn't Black or White, left or right. The reality is more towards gray. After understanding that, getting multiple sources from different points of view is important. It is important to read them even if you think that this point of view is a little bit exaggerated against what you think. Our opinion about a subject is important but the truth doesn't always follow our real opinion.
We can watch and read the news for sure, but knowing that probably that is probably part of the truth, and we should wait more, read other sources before taking a judgment and condemning someone. Social media is here to spread news quicker which can also bring many misjudgements about what is happening in the world. In elections, is something. Now with the North American elections just knocking at the door we can see how heated is the US between Trump and Biden. Many things happening and we need to be careful about what we read.

Podemos ir para uma perspectiva mais local para entender um problema que isso pode causar. Minha esposa recebeu um caso que estava processando a emissora de TV. Uma mulher estava sendo acusada de matar o próprio filho. O canal mostrou uma perspectiva que já estava condenando a mãe por matar a criança. Ela era vista como vilã, claro, por toda a população. Na justiça, foi provado que ela não matou a criança e que a criança morreu de problemas de saúde. Mesmo não sendo culpada, a mulher ainda sofre hoje em dia com sua imagem, já que algumas pessoas ainda se lembram do caso e ainda a associam a um assassinato.
Esse é um caso que afeta a vida de uma pessoa específica que em teoria não é famosa, ou não era até o caso. Mas imagine agora uma notícia importante condenando uma pessoa famosa, como um artista, ou um político. Eu não gosto de políticos, mas os canais de TV sempre escolhem o lado deles durante as eleições. A população não consegue ver isso e muitas vezes escolhe seu lado. Isso também acontece durante as guerras. Sempre há os pobres contra o diabo. Os canais de TV e jornais são os principais culpados de como as informações chegam às pessoas e sempre tiveram grande parte da culpa em polarizar a população, o que piorou com as mídias sociais.
Como gerenciar e entender o que é uma realidade sobre um evento relatado no mundo ou na comunidade local? É difícil e serei franco que segui o caminho errado muitas vezes. Mas o primeiro ponto é entender que o mundo não é preto ou branco, esquerda ou direita. A realidade é mais para o cinza. Depois de entender isso, obter várias fontes de diferentes pontos de vista é importante. É importante lê-las, mesmo que você ache que esse ponto de vista é um pouco exagerado em relação ao que você pensa. Nossa opinião sobre um assunto é importante, mas a verdade nem sempre segue nossa opinião real.
Podemos assistir e ler as notícias com certeza, mas sabendo que provavelmente isso é parte da verdade, e deveríamos esperar mais, ler outras fontes antes de fazer um julgamento e condenar alguém. As mídias sociais estão aqui para espalhar notícias mais rápido, o que também pode trazer muitos julgamentos errados sobre o que está acontecendo no mundo. Nas eleições, é algo. Agora, com as eleições norte-americanas batendo à porta, podemos ver o quão acalorados estão os EUA entre Trump e Biden. Muitas coisas estão acontecendo e precisamos ter cuidado com o que lemos.
