I am a person who is always harsh with myself. When I think about myself, I see first my weak points and the good ones are tough to see. It was worst before, but now I can also see what I have as good qualities. So when someone asks me about my weak points it is easier to point out compared the good qualities. So why not talk about the weak point that causes all of this? It is called subjugation and affects many people. Recently I found a friend with the same problem and people who have it sometimes get it confused with a good quality since we get involved in fewer fights, but it isn't.
This weak point makes us always bellow the other, in a point that we trust more in others' capabilities than in ourselves most of the time. In a discussion about different points of view on the same thing. Those who have subjugation prefer to step out to avoid conflicts but in the end, they continue to feel the feeling of unfairness which can accumulate and create some stressful moments within the person. On top of that when someone asks us about good and bad qualities about ourselves, we first think about the bad ones first.
But what is the origin of that? That happens a lot with children with a lack of validation when they were a kid. Looking back to my childhood I remember my parents being very tough with me with my grades. Rarely did I hear a "good job", it was always criticism of everything that I created or made. For example, when I got a B on an exam, it was common to hear "Why not A?" and then if my answer was "But it was a hard exam, it was one of the higher grades", the answer was "never use the other to compare your progression, you always need to be the best". That accumulates and now everything that we accomplish sometimes we put down "it wasn't such a big deal".
How to escape from that? Well, I have been into some inner work for a while and studying a lot of the origin and about that. But I guess that the best medicine for that is finding people who will validate a lot your feelings. Recently I have been talking a lot with @shiftrox, and he doesn't know yet but here I am thanking him for saying things that probably it is simple for him such as " so sorry that you are going through this, that is tough". Sometimes we are sharing emotions and people want to give advice, and they think that the advice is what you need, but in reality, you just want a "great job you made it well" or "I feel your pain so sorry for you passing through this problem". This is what we call reparation.
As adults we are a consequence of our children a long time ago, many holes remain in there with the need for repair. It is like that pothole in cities that keep opening year after year. We can choose to ignore it or maybe find a way to fix it. I still have this weakness but for sure I am in the middle of a repair process and I don't know how long it will take it. I just hope that it doesn't take much.
